Principal Engineer -Public Edge Infrastructure Engineering - Engineering · Stockholm, Milan · Full-time · kr 1,076,536 SEK - kr 1,248,781 SEK Overview Application What you will do Work as a hands-on Principal Engineer and own Klarna’s public edge architecture — the global entrypoint for all customer and partner traffic. Design and build the next-generation edge platform that public services rely on for secure, reliable, low-latency traffic handling. Define how services are exposed, secured, routed, and monitored at the edge — and implement the core patterns in production code. Design and implement the technical foundation for migrating 500+ production public endpoints to a scalable and secure model. For example: building reusable patterns so services can be made globally available with minimal custom configuration. Own and evolve edge security using AWS CloudFront and AWS WAF, defining secure-by-default patterns aligned with OWASP principles. For example: bot mitigation, rate limiting, and protection against common web attacks while keeping latency low. Simplify traffic flows and reduce architectural complexity at scale. For example: enabling more direct edge-to-service communication paths. Design and implement clear observability patterns for public infrastructure. For example: making it easy to understand how public entrypoints behave and how they relate to backend services. Build AI-assisted developer tooling that embeds edge standards directly into workflows. For example: using coding agents and reusable Claude-based skills to help teams migrate endpoints safely. Lead through engineering — write production code, ship core components, and set standards through working implementations. Who you are A deeply hands-on expert in public or edge infrastructure with strong experience in AWS CloudFront and AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF). You have personally designed and built large-scale, customer-facing systems operating at significant traffic levels. You have led architectural change by building reference implementations and enabling others to follow. You have strong TypeScript mastery and write production-grade infrastructure code and tooling in TypeScript (AWS CDK), with high standards for abstraction design and maintainability. You understand global traffic management, caching, TLS, routing, distributed system failure modes, and performance trade-offs. You have strong knowledge of web security fundamentals (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and experience applying edge protections such as bot mitigation and rate limiting. You are comfortable making architectural decisions with long-term impact and balancing security, performance, cost, and developer experience. You enjoy building systems yourself and reducing complexity through well-designed abstractions. Awesome to have Experience with frontend engineering and modern frameworks such as React, especially in performance-sensitive environments. Strong knowledge of web performance optimization, including caching strategies and improving time-to-first-byte. Experience with edge execution or serverless request-handling models. Experience building AI-assisted developer tooling or automation systems. Experience defining infrastructure patterns adopted across multiple teams.
