Job Summary

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating press brake machines to bend and form metal components according to engineering drawings and production specifications. This role ensures parts are produced accurately, safely, and efficiently while maintaining high quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate press brake machines to bend, shape, and form metal components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
  • Select appropriate tooling, dies, and machine settings for each job.
  • Program CNC press brakes or adjust manual settings as required.
  • Measure and inspect finished parts using tools such as calipers, gauges, and tape measures to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Perform first-piece and in-process quality checks.
  • Maintain safe operation of machinery and follow all workplace safety procedures.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and report mechanical issues to maintenance personnel.
  • Organize materials and maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and quality inspectors to meet production targets.

Required Qualifications

  • Sheet Metal JM ticket preferred - High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience operating press brake machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with measuring tools and inspection processes.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machine programming (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CNC press brake systems (e.g., Amada, Trumpf, Bystronic).
  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Forklift or overhead crane certification (an asset).
  • Experience with lean manufacturing practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Manual dexterity and ability to safely handle metal components.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and moving equipment.
