Position Summary:
Troubleshoots, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on Port Houston equipment and supporting equipment.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machinery including but not limited to container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles and terminal chassis.
- Diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors and other related parts; diagnose and repair chassis components and systems, brakes, pneumatic, suspension, and alignment
- Utilize computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve information
- Provide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery including engine overhaul, body repair and work order requests
- Use hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasks
- For yard truck and chassis repair, remove, repair and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, fuel, cooling and electrical systems
- Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work duties to subordinate staff
- Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
- Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor

- Perform other duties as required Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required
- 4+ years related mechanic experience required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:
- Knowledge diagnostics and repair
- Knowledge of mechanics
- Knowledge of automotive and heavy-duty equipment repair and maintenance
- Knowledge of safety policies and procedures
- Knowledge of safety precautions concerning occupational hazards
- Ability to work with others
- Ability to pay attention to detail
- Ability to operate a forklift
- A current, valid Texas driver's license is required
- A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
