The General Medicine unit is a twenty-bed medical unit located in Boston, MA. The unit is committed to delivering high quality patient care that is focused on the unique, individualized needs of patients with a wide variety of acute medical illnesses and chronic diseases. The staff is highly regarded by physicians and other interdisciplinary colleagues for their clinical expertise in caring for patients at every point on the adult healthcare continuum by providing holistic, complex, and compassionate care. Only applicants seeking per diem employment will be strongly considered for this role.

Mandatory weekend shifts every month.

Job Summary
SummaryWorking under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions
-Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
-Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
-Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
-Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
-Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
-Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
-Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
-Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
-Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
-Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
