An Ordinary Seaman (OS) is a Deck Ratings, and his/her main duty is to assist in keeping the ship clean and well maintained, and to assist in all other Deck Operating work, including bridge watches.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
RWF (Recreational Water Facility), Potable Water:
Maintain public health standards for both bunkering of potable water and RWF’S (Recreational water facilities) (See Familiarization verification check list)
Vessel Maintenance Duties:
Cleaning, rust scaling and painting of the vessel’s hull, decks, masts and superstructure.
Cleaning, rust scaling and painting of the various vessels’ inside/enclosed space.
Maintain rust scaling of tanks.
Maintain of all vessel’s running gear and mooring/anchoring equipment.
Maintenance of safety and lifesaving equipment when ordered / requested.
Watch Duties:
Keep watch as directed by the Bosun.
Other required duties:
Be observant and alert in order to give suggestions to Bosun about improvement in the shipboard operation.
Participate in educating and guiding the younger and less experienced deck crewmember in the daily operation, in order to improve the quality of the Deck Department.
Be familiar with the daily operation in the safety and environmental operation onboard.
Keep quarters, as well as commonly used areas clean and tidy.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum one (1) year experience working in a shipboard environment is required.
Basic to Intermediate level of English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or Foreign Equivalent is required.
