About the Job

The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable day-to-day operations of the transport division, specialising in the heavy haulage of bulk iron ore. Reporting to the Business Unit Manager - Road, this role involves managing the scheduling and delivery of product to customer sites, optimising operational processes, driving team performance, managing resources, and delivering a high level of service to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, recruit, train, and manage a team of Supervisors and operational staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Set clear performance expectations and KPIs, provide regular feedback, and proactively address any issues.
  • Continuously monitor and improve transport operations by analysing data, identifying efficiencies, and implementing process improvements in collaboration with the General Manager.
  • Optimise the allocation of resources, including drivers, vehicles, and equipment, to ensure smooth and cost-effective operations.
  • Enforce strict safety protocols and regulatory compliance, responding promptly to any safety incidents.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, understanding their needs and expectations.
  • Manage and control fleet operational costs, including labour, fuel, and other expenses.
  • Support Supervisors in the full employee lifecycle for Drivers, including recruitment, rostering, bonus schemes, performance management, and retention initiatives.
  • Review weekly and monthly reports, identifying trends and implementing solutions with the Operations team.

You’ll have a strategic mindset, operational expertise in transport, and a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential, along with a proactive approach to managing multiple priorities.
