POSITION SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist will provide rehabilitation and functional recovery services as part of Project HOPE’s Gaza Response program. In a context of active conflict, displacement, and high rates of trauma-related injuries and psychological distress, the Occupational Therapist will support individuals in regaining independence in daily living activities and improving participation in community life. The role contributes to early and ongoing rehabilitation efforts for patients affected by injury, disability, or prolonged illness. Working within multidisciplinary medical and rehabilitation teams, the Occupational Therapist ensures that services are delivered in accordance with national health guidelines, WHO standards, and humanitarian principles, while embedding safeguarding, accountability, and Do No Harm practices. This position is being advertised contingent upon award; while the recruitment process will proceed as part of organizational preparedness, no formal offer will be extended until funding is confirmed. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: ● Conduct comprehensive functional assessments to evaluate patients’ physical, cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental factors affecting independence. ● Providing rehabilitation and psychosocial support to patients with trauma-related injuries, neurological and physical disabilities including individuals with amputations and mobility limitations to enhance functional recovery and independence. ● Develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans aimed at improving patients’ ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). ● Provide therapeutic interventions to improve fine motor skills, coordination, cognitive functioning, and adaptive skills necessary for daily activities and social participation. ● Assess and recommend assistive devices and adaptive equipment, and provide training to patients and caregivers on their safe and effective use. ● Conduct home and environmental assessments and recommend basic adaptations to improve accessibility, safety, and functional independence. ● Provide patient-centered, evidence-based rehabilitation interventions appropriate for resource-constrained or emergency health settings. ● Support patients in regaining independence in self-care, mobility, and community participation. ● Educate patients and caregivers on home-based rehabilitation activities, adaptive strategies, and prevention of secondary complications. ● Collaborate closely with physiotherapists, rehabilitation nurses, medical doctors, MHPSS staff, and protection teams to ensure integrated and holistic rehabilitation services. ● Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, service planning, and program monitoring to improve rehabilitation outcomes. ● Promote inclusion of persons with disabilities and support disability-sensitive rehabilitation approaches within health services. ● Participate in community awareness and outreach activities aimed at promoting rehabilitation services and disability inclusion. ● Ensure rehabilitation services are delivered in line with safeguarding, protection mainstreaming, accountability, and Do No Harm principles. ● Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: ● Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution. Good in English both written and verbal is required. ● ● Valid and current professional license to practice. ● 1-3 yrs of professional experience in occupational therapy practice. ● Experience working with trauma-related injuries, neurological conditions, or physical disabilities. ● Experience in humanitarian or emergency settings is desirable. ● Strong knowledge of rehabilitation and disability inclusion principles. ● Ability to work effectively in high-pressure and resource-constrained environments. ● Demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and safeguarding standards. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ● Experience working in conflict-affected or hardship contexts such as Gaza. ● Familiarity with WHO rehabilitation guidelines and humanitarian health standards (Sphere). ● Experience in multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams within emergency response programs. ● Training in community-based rehabilitation (CBR) approaches or assistive device adaptation. Physical demands: ● While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment. ● Must be able to communicate in verbal and written form and must be able to travel internationally.
