Segment Finance Lead - Health

What You Will Do:

As the Health Segment Finance Lead (Director level), you are the Chief Financial Officer for Guidehouse’s largest segment and the nexus between Segment leadership and Corporate Finance. You bring strong financial acumen and operational literacy to build and communicate a clear financial narrative through reporting, data analytics, forecasting, variance analysis, and understanding of delivery risks/upsides; and ensure robust accounting treatment, controls, payments and collections. You translate results, forecasts, and trade-offs into decision-ready insight, ensuring forecasts are credible, explainable, and accurate —and that performance gaps are actively managed through clear accountability and corrective action.

Responsibilities:

  • Inform Segment-level decisions and drive performance outcomes through financial insights, including clear articulation of risks, opportunities, and tradeoffs.

    • Guide discussions to focus on accountability and forward-looking action, to both optimize performance and lead corrective actions when needed.

  • Oversee monthly accounting close and ensure accuracy of Health segment and practice area financial results including Advisory, Technology, and Managed Services practices in Commercial and Public Sectors. Collaborate with project finance team and client delivery leadership, where appropriate, on the following:

    • In partnership with Project Finance Delivery / Project Controls, review revenue by client engagement for reasonableness and appropriate revenue recognition, and explain variances

    • Review utilization, bill rate, and employee headcount metrics and supporting details.

    • In partnership with Project Finance Delivery / Project Controls, analyze client engagement work-in-process and accounts receivable for collectability issues and recommend reserves/escalations, as needed.

    • In collaboration with Project Finance Delivery / Project Controls and local Finance representatives, review results for key geographies performing within Health (including U.S. and India), explain drivers, and surface risks/opportunities.

    • Coordinate with Accounting and Project Finance Delivery / Project Controls to prepare or review journal entries, ensuring appropriate support and clear articulation of financial impact.

    • Communicate performance drivers though presenting KPIs.

    • Actively manage performance gaps to plan by identifying root causes, developing mitigation plans, and tracking progress and outcomes over time.

  • Present Segment and practice financial reports, manage financial communications and analyses to support business objectives and strategic plans.

  • Provide oversight of project-level financial reporting and analysis, ensuring key actions (e.g., discounts/write-offs) are evaluated through a Segment/Practice lens (AGM impact, basis-point impact, trend detection) and escalated appropriately when patterns or risks emerge.

  • Serve as the primary liaison and single point of accountability for Segment finance matters—building trusted relationships with Segment/Practice leaders and Corporate Finance, and coordinating across FP&A, Accounting, Contracts, Pricing, Human Capital, and Project Finance/Project Controls to drive decisions and resolve issues end-to-end.

  • Lead the Segment’s and practice areas’ annual planning and quarterly forecasting activities:

    • Collaborate with Project Finance Delivery / Project Controls, Segment leadership, and practice leaders to set targets and build up revenue, margin, headcount, and key drivers—grounded in contract-level realities, delivery capacity, and observed performance trends.

    • Prepare budget, forecast presentations, and support analyses for segment and corporate leadership that clearly articulate assumptions.

    • In partnership with Project Finance Delivery and practice/client leaders, document and maintain key risks, opportunities, dependencies, and top contracts that underpin budget, reforecasts, and rolling estimates (including triggers, owners, and timing).

  • Evaluate pipeline sufficiency to meet goals and work with practice area leaders to improve accuracy of forecasting.

  • Engage in practice area meetings to understand business operations, financial trajectory, and to articulate financial considerations.

  • Support additional segment activities:

    • DSO improvement and resolution of billing and collections issues.

    • Compliance with internal controls and company policies.

    • Oversee vendor and intercompany invoice approvals in partnership with Project Finance Delivery / Project Controls and Accounts Payable, ensuring compliance with controls and timely resolution of exceptions.

    • Solution development to improve financial processes and operations.

    • Other key projects, process improvements, and performance management initiatives.

  • Develop staff (direct reports and dotted-line project finance support resources) by setting clear expectations for ownership and insight, and by intentionally cross-training talent across FP&A/corporate processes and Project Finance/Project Controls to avoid silos and build well-rounded finance partners.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a finance-related field.

  • 12+ years of finance experience in professional services.

  • 5+ years in a financial management role required.

  • Proven experience serving as the primary finance owner for a business, segment, or large practice with full accountability for revenue, margins, utilization, and other key performance drivers.

  • Ability to independently explain results, variances, and forward outlook at both aggregate and underlying driver levels—leveraging strong Excel/modeling and data-wrangling skills to translate complex data into succinct, decision-ready insight.

  • Deep experience leading annual planning, rolling forecasts, and multi‑year outlooks that are internally consistent, explainable, and grounded in business drivers and observed performance trends.

  • Clear thinking and strong critical thinking skills with the ability to grasp new ideas quickly; take initiative to understand root causes of issues and development solutions; able to both lead and work independently; manage multiple tasks.

  • Excellent communication skills and executive presence. Experience working across multiple levels, functions, and regions; able to translate complex financial data into clearly communicated insights, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to leadership; able to deliver messages effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Integrity: Accepting and adhering to high moral, ethical, and personal values in decisions, communications, and actions when dealing with others

What Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Expertise with Oracle EPM, Deltek, Costpoint, Peoplesoft Financials, and/or financial reporting tools such as Cognos, Power BI, and TM1; comfort with diagnosing data issues and improving insight quality, even when not the system owner.

  • Experience working at a private-equity-backed company.

  • Strong modeling skills supporting what‑if analysis, scenario planning, and sensitivity analysis to inform leadership decisions under uncertainty.

  • Experience supporting long‑range planning, investment cases, or growth initiatives that extend beyond the annual planning horizon.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and partners without direct authority, including challenging assumptions and driving behavior change.

  • Experience leading, mentoring, or developing finance talent, including setting expectations around ownership, insight, and accountability.

  • MBA or CPA preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $171,000.00-$285,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
