In this role, you will support and maintain a legacy COBOL application alongside modern .NET components, while also contributing to ongoing enhancements. You’ll work closely with developers, business analysts, and system administrators to ensure the stability and performance of critical systems in a dynamic environment.
This is a permanent Adelaide-based role, requiring onsite attendance at least 2 days per week. Participation in a rotational on-call roster for after-hours support is required, with overtime compensation provided.
This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative, close-knit team and expand your technical expertise across both legacy and modern systems.
What will keep you busy
• Provide support for a COBOL-based legacy system with .NET components, including troubleshooting, bug fixing, and performance improvements
• Deliver minor enhancements across applications using COBOL, .NET, C#, SQL Server, and web services
• Investigate and resolve production issues, including participation in on-call support
• Monitor system health and performance to ensure high availability and reliability
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and contribute to technical design documentation
• Manage support tickets, including incidents and service requests
• Participate in server patching, deployments, and implementation activities
• Balance support work with enhancement tasks and small project contributions
• Maintain best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment
The skills you will bring
• 5–6 years of hands-on experience in .NET development
• Strong proficiency in C# and .NET (including Web Services/WCF)
• Solid experience with SQL Server, including performance tuning and data analysis
• Good understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including design patterns and methodologies (Agile/Waterfall)
• Experience developing and maintaining web applications using .NET Framework 4.8, with a focus on API development
• Strong PowerShell scripting skills for automation (deployments, monitoring, batch processing)
• Familiarity with Windows Server administration, IIS, and SSL certificate management
• Experience with source control systems such as Git and TFS, and exposure to Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with Micro Focus Managed COBOL (desirable, not mandatory)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Strong customer service mindset
