MHSW Depot Technician, Processing Facilities

Hamilton, Ontario April 16, 2026 Full Time Workday



 

The Technician is responsible for the handling, consolidating and processing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials received by the Processing Facilities. The Technician must display a focus on safety and efficiency in a team environment while performing moderately labour intensive and repetitious tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the operation of the City of Hamilton MHSW Mobile events and MHSW Depots.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents visiting the Events & depots.
  • Perform physically demanding work.
  • Identify, sort, and pack waste chemicals into appropriate storage containers.
  • Weigh each material on-site (eg. drums, gaylords, 20L Pails, etc…) and input the weights in the computer inventory tracking system.
  • Maintain a clean work area, including the depot grounds and the Job site.
  • Work in a safe manner always and comply with deport rules and regulations.
  • Follow Supervisor instructions daily and perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • You will be required to work 5 days a week, including Saturdays from 9:00am – 5:00pm.
  • Post-secondary degree /diploma degree required (In the field of chemistry or
    environmental would be an asset.)
  • Two (2) years of MHSW, chemistry or relevant experience.
  • Valid G License and own transportation is mandatory as depots are typically
    located outside of public transportation.
  • Ability to perform moderately labour intensive and repetitious tasks
  • Physically fit with the aability to lift +50lbs and stand on cement for extended periods of time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment

Working Conditions:

  • Sunday shifts may be required during the summer season.
  • The City of Hamilton MHSW Depots are closed on statutory holidays, including the Civic Holiday, except for Boxing Day
