POSITION SUMMARY: The MHPSS Officer will support and provide technical, and operational leadership for MHPSS programming within Project HOPE’s Gaza Response. In the context of active conflict, mass displacement, trauma exposure, and elevated GBV and protection risks, the role ensures high-quality, evidence-based, and survivor-centered MHPSS interventions. The position will support program design, supervise field teams, ensure integration with health and protection programming, and represent Project HOPE in relevant coordination platforms. The role ensures compliance with IASC MHPSS guidelines, national standards, donor requirements, and safeguarding principles. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct initial clinical interviews to establish preliminary diagnoses and utilize psychological testing tools to inform comprehensive treatment plans. Deliver individual, group, or family psychotherapy sessions, focusing on complex cases (e.g., severe trauma, PTSD, or high-risk cases). Lead and facilities the scalable interventions implementation (PM+, SH +, etc. ). Collaborate with psychiatrists to manage cases requiring psychotropic medication, ensuring strict follow-up on adherence and monitoring side effects. Oversee community-based MHPSS activities, ensuring timely , well-coordinated delivery in line with standards and agreed models. Provide regular individual and group supervision sessions to field staff; offer on-the-job coaching and feedback to facilitators and consolers. Train and mentor field staff and volunteers on identifying mental disorders and implementing evidence-based protocols (e.g., IASC guidelines, mhGAP ). Design and execute community-based programs, including mental health education and awareness-raising activities. Maintain accurate , organized, and strictly confidential patient files in line with data protection standards. Prepare concise, analytical monthly and quarterly reports, success stories, and case studies reflecting progress and clinical outcomes. Work with the MEAL team to ensure regular monitoring, data collection, and integration of beneficiary feedback into program design. Actively participate in technical meetings and case conferences to develop comprehensive action plans within a specialized team. Ensure strict compliance with safeguarding, confidentiality, informed consent, and PSEA protocols. Develop and update technical tools including SOPs, referral pathways, safety planning tools, and group curricula. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Typically, [University degree, preferably in psychology, psychological counseling, Mental Health or any other related field.]. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate . Master’s degree or post graduate diploma is a plus Typically [Min 3 years of relevant and progressive experience in implementing clinical work or direct providing for the mental health interventions and case management with a psychological background, in humanitarian or development settings.] Knowledge in Brief interventions including PM+, SH+ , PFA . Knowledge in Case management approach, detection and referrals Experience or training in mental health and psychosocial support services preferable . Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and ability to communicate in English. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently and responsibly. Experience working with children and women. Ability to work under pressure and strong time management skills to meet both short-term and long-term objectives . Experience in facilitating group sessions. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree in Mental Health or related field. Experience working in Gaza or high-intensity conflict settings. Experience representing organizations in cluster coordination platforms. Specialized training in trauma-focused approaches or clinical supervision . Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment. Must be able to communicate in verbal and written form and must be able to travel internationally. Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.” Work environment : Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level. Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions. Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation. While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently.
