Location: London Bridge Hospital
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shift times: Monday – Friday, 0900-1700
Office based role (up to 2 days per week working from home available after passing successful probation, depending on staffing and cover requirements)
Fixed Term Contract till End of February 2027
We are looking for a Medical Secretariat Supervisor to join our team at London Bridge Hospital. The post holder will actively establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with the hospital’s stakeholders, independent secretaries (patients, consultants and clients) to support the whole patient pathway whilst championing best practice at all times.
As one of two Medical Secretary Supervisors, you’ll help oversee a team of around 45 Medical Secretaries, with direct line‑management responsibility for approximately 17 of them. Your role is central to the smooth running of the department, ensuring the team is supported, well‑organised, and delivering an excellent service.
What you'll do:
Acting as a main point of contact for the Medical Secretary team and managing day‑to‑day departmental needs
Planning, allocating and reviewing workload across the team
Conducting reviews, appraisals and monthly 1:1s, setting clear objectives and monitoring progress
Supporting performance management where required
Leading on recruitment and selection, ensuring the right skill mix within the team
Training and inducting new starters, and ensuring all staff are confident using our IT systems
Developing, implementing and auditing departmental policies and procedures to maintain high standards
Promoting a positive, supportive and learning‑focused team culture
Handling complaints and escalating when appropriate
Managing stationery and equipment orders
Providing emergency cover for Medical Secretaries when needed
Working closely with the Head of Department and Deputy Manager on departmental priorities
Ensuring information, documentation and communication are accurate, timely and of high quality
What you'll bring:
Must have Medical Secretary experience, ideally in Private Healthcare.
Previous Supervisory/Leadership experience.
Detailed knowledge and experience of all systems (DGL/Meditech/Carebit/Mosaiq).
Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
Strong communications skills and ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including executives, managers, team members, and external partners
