Garrison Women's Health (GWH), located at 770 Central Avenue in Dover, NH, consists of a premier team of expert providers and specialists who take a thoughtful approach to provide high-quality compassionate care in the areas of Obstetrics, Gynecology, Infertility, and LGBTQ+ care. For more than 50 years, GWH's experienced physicians, midwives, and ancillary staff have cared for women in the greater New Hampshire Seacoast area.
We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to join our team with a schedule of Monday through Friday, from 7:30am to 4:30pm. The primary location will be 770 Central Ave in Dover, NH. We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned practices and locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances for cross-coverage purposes and to ensure adequate coverage and support.
As true partners to our nurses and providers, our Medical Assistants get the opportunity to work autonomously to the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of the collaborative team. At our practice, Medical Assistants work 1:1 or 1:2 with their assigned Providers, allowing a strong partnership to be formed. We find that this structure enhances communication, improves efficiency, and personalizes patient care, ultimately leading to a better experience for all parties involved.
The Medical Assistant plays a key role in maintaining efficient patient flow and delivering comprehensive clinical support. Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, performing point-of-care testing, documenting patient information, and assisting with procedures.
This role requires the ability to manage a broad scope of responsibilities, maintain steady patient flow, and adapt to supporting multiple providers, while demonstrating strong clinical judgment, reliability, and a proactive, team-oriented approach.
Job Summary
The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.Does this position require Patient Care? Essential Functions:
-Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
-Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
-Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
-Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
-Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
-Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
-Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
-Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred
Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred
Experience
Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Strongly preferred qualifications include experience in ambulatory or specialty care settings, familiarity with EMR systems (such as EPIC), and the ability to support providers in a 1:1 or team-based model while maintaining efficient patient flow and clear communication.
