About the Internship

The Medical Affairs Summer Internship provides early exposure to the role of Medical Affairs within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology organization. This program is designed for pharmacy students between their first and second professional years who are interested in learning how scientific evidence, clinical practice, and strategic communication come together in industry settings. Interns will gain hands-on experience supporting Medical Affairs projects while learning from experienced medical and scientific professionals. This is a Nutley-based Internship within our Medical Affairs Department. Our Hybrid Work Schedule in office days are Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays. The duration of the internship is 12 weeks. Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy (PharmD program), preferably having completed at least one professional year.

What You Will Learn 

- Understand the role and impact of Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry 
- Learn how clinical evidence is evaluated and communicated 
- Develop foundational skills in medical writing and scientific presentations 
- Observe cross-functional collaboration with other teams, including Market Access, Commercial, Clinical, etc. 
- Explore career pathways within Medical Affairs 

Key Responsibilities and Sample Projects 

- Support development of disease state or therapeutic area overview materials 
- Summarize and analyze primary medical literature  
- Assist with medical information–style responses under supervision 

- Contribute to digital social media listening and content creation 
- Conduct literature searches in support of Medical Affairs initiatives  

- Participate in AI human-in-the-loop implementation and testing 
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities 

Internship Structure 

- Orientation and compliance training at the start of the program 
- Project-based work with defined deliverables 
- Regular mentorship check-ins with Medical Affairs professionals 
- Educational sessions covering various Medical Affairs roles 
- End-of-program capstone presentation to Medical Affairs leadership 

Qualifications 

Required: 
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program 
- Completion of first professional year (P1) by internship start 
- Strong interest in Medical Affairs or the pharmaceutical industry 
- Ability to interpret, analyze, and summarize scientific literature 
- Strong written and verbal communication skills 
 
Preferred: 
- Interest in Medical Affairs, scientific communications, or other Pharmacist industry roles 
- Experience with literature evaluation or presentations
