ROLE SUMMARY

AstraZeneca is pioneering the next generation of respiratory care, leveraging our deep heritage and a robust portfolio to transform the lives of patients with chronic airway diseases. This high-impact therapy area addresses significant unmet medical needs across asthma and COPD, spanning both inhaled therapies and advanced biologic treatments.

The Medical Advisor – Respiratory role ensures the delivery of high-quality and impactful scientific engagement, medical education, evidence support, and insight generation in alignment with respiratory TA priorities. The role is also responsible for driving the execution of medical activities and building advocacy with relevant specialties across the Central Region of Saudi Arabia.  You will act as a trusted scientific partner to healthcare professionals, multidisciplinary teams, and centres of excellence, ensuring that science, clinical precision, and patient outcomes remain at the core of every initiative.

This role requires strong therapeutic knowledge in respiratory diseases, scientific acumen, and the ability to connect field-based insights to broader medical and business strategies during a critical phase of portfolio growth and new launches.

The role may take responsibility as reviewer for activities and promotional materials and may lead Medical Information and Pharmacovigilance within a particular market.

What you’ll do

Field Medical Excellence

  • Execute the Respiratory Medical Affairs Plan in alignment with TA leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Deliver high-quality scientific exchange with HCPs and decision-makers to support the appropriate use of asthma and COPD therapies.
  • Drive disease education initiatives, multidisciplinary collaborations, and patient identification strategies across asthma and COPD.
  • Support launch readiness and lifecycle management activities across the respiratory portfolio.

Scientific Engagement and External Collaboration

  • Build strong peer-to-peer relationships with Key External Experts (KEEs) across pulmonology, allergy/immunology, and related specialties.
  • Lead and contribute to scientific meetings, advisory boards, and symposia as a subject-matter expert in respiratory diseases.
  • Support speaker development, CME activities, and scientific partnerships aligned with the respiratory strategy.
  • Generate and communicate actionable insights to inform local strategy and identify opportunities to improve patient care and access.

Evidence Generation and Data Dissemination

  • Support local studies, registries, and Investigator-Initiated Studies (IIS) across asthma and COPD.
  • Contribute to the development and review of scientific materials ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Disseminate emerging clinical and real-world evidence on respiratory therapies in an ethical and balanced manner.

Cross-Functional Medical Support

  • Partner with Market Access, HEOR, Commercial, and Regulatory teams to ensure strong scientific alignment.
  • Provide medical input into formulary discussions, value communication, and payer engagement.
  • Deliver scientific training and support to internal stakeholders across the respiratory portfolio.

Compliance and Medical Governance

  • Ensure all activities align with AstraZeneca’s ethical standards, SOPs, and SFDA regulations.
  • Maintain full compliance in documentation, adverse event reporting, and insight capture systems.

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine or pharmacy is required
  • Post-graduate master’s degree is an advantage
  • Respiratory experience is a must.
  • 2+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, preferably in respiratory (asthma/COPD).
  • Experience across inhaled therapies and/or biologics is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of patient pathways, referral systems, and access dynamics in respiratory care within Saudi Arabia.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific data into meaningful clinical value.
  • Strong strategic thinking with solid business and healthcare system understanding.

Desirable for the role

  • Knowledge of company products and allocated therapeutic areas, expertise at relevant therapy area
  • Acts independently, is willing to take on challenges, and can say no to stakeholders when necessary
  • Sets high standards of work and makes others accountable for achieving outstanding performance
