Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for skilled and motivated mechanical engineering students to push the structural components of our vehicles to the next level. The team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of drive units and is looking for students aspiring to grow technically and personally while contributing to projects that are critical to the team’s success.   • Design and 3D modeling of mechanical components and assemblies including housings, structural components, sheet metal and insulation systems.​

  • Develop test fixtures and engineering test plans for components design validation. ​

  • Hands-on work for prototype builds and proof of concept initiatives.​

  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies. ​

  • Investigate design and production problems and implement creative solutions.​

  • B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, or the equivalent in experience, and evidence of exceptional ability.​

  • Understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals (statics, dynamics, materials).​

  • Experience using 3D mechanical design and analysis tools (CATIA V5 and/or V6, ANSYS).​

  • Proven interest in mechanical design engineering through extracurricular activities and projects.​


Additional Preferred Skills​

  • Experience designing and building mechanical assemblies, for example motor/gearbox systems.​

  • Basic understanding of multi-physics interactions (mechanical, electrical, magnetic, thermal).​

  • In-depth understanding of dynamic systems, with their impact on structural durability and NVH.​

  • Experience using GD&T to control part features.
