Manager - Legal & Compliance
Responsibilities Location: India (Pune / Hybrid) | 3 days WFO Reporting To: Head of Legal PGS India Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced In- House Attorney to support the PGS legal Office in India and leadership team across legal compliance, employment law, and contracts review. This role will serve as a trusted legal advisor for India operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating legal risk, and enabling business growth through practical and sound legal guidance. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Indian employment laws, corporate and regulatory compliance, and commercial contracts, with the ability to work closely with business leaders, HR, Compliance, and global legal teams. Key Responsibilities: Legal Compliance & Regulatory Advisory: Advise the PGS India and leadership team on Indian legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements applicable to business operations. Monitor changes in Indian laws, regulations, and industry standards, and assess their impact on the organization. Support implementation and maintenance of compliance frameworks, policies, and internal controls. Assist in regulatory filings, audits, inspections, and inquiries by governmental or statutory authorities. Partner with Compliance and Risk teams to identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks. Employment & Labor Law: Serve as the legal advisor on Indian employment and labour laws, including hiring, termination, disciplinary actions, workplace policies, benefits, and statutory compliance. Review, draft, and advise on employment‑related documents such as offer letters, employment agreements, policies, handbooks, and separations. Support HR in managing employee relations issues, investigations, and dispute resolution. Advise on compliance with laws relating to Wages Codes, POSH, ESI, PF, Shops & Establishments, CLRA, LWF, PT, Industrial Disputes, and other applicable statutes etc. Support management of employment litigation, working with external counsel as needed. Contracts Review & Commercial Support: Review, draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, service agreements, NDAs, consulting agreements, and client contracts. Ensure contracts align with company policies, risk tolerance, and Indian legal requirements. Identify legal risks in commercial arrangements and propose practical solutions to support business objectives. Maintain contract standards, templates, and playbooks for India business needs. Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership: Act as a legal business partner to the PGS India, its leadership team, HR, Finance, and Operations teams. Collaborate with global Legal and Compliance teams to ensure alignment with enterprise policies and standards. Coordinate with external law firms and advisors, managing costs and quality of legal services. Provide training and awareness sessions to business and functional teams on legal and compliance topics. Qualifications Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Competencies: Education & Licensing: Bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B.) from a recognized university, additional diploma/degree in Indian employment law would be preferred not mandatory. Qualified to practice law in India. Experience: 10–14+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a corporate legal office of a multinational company. Strong hands‑on experience in Indian employment law, regulatory compliance, and contracts review. Experience supporting senior leadership and advising on business‑critical legal matters. Prior exposure to multinational or matrixed organizations is strongly preferred. Skills & Competencies: Deep understanding of Indian labour and employment laws and regulatory frameworks. Contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills. Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, practical business advice. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. High ethical standards, sound judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
