Maintenance Apprentice

Brief Description: The program is designed to provide the basic skills and knowledge essential for maintenance employees. At the conclusion of the program, the employee will have completed the requirements for a Technical Certificate in Industrial Technology and demonstrated on-the-job training experience.
Program Design and Job Duties: • The apprenticeship program will combine on-the-job training and academic instruction.
• OmniSource has partnered with Ivy Tech Community College-Fort Wayne to create one 2-year apprenticeship program in which apprentices will learn the following:
• Preventative maintenance and repair of non-ferrous equipment and conveyer systems.
• Perform basic maintenance duties (fabricate, install, read blueprints, and other basic maintenance requirements)
• Operating various types of welding equipment.
• Complete necessary paperwork for each job.
• Prioritize and execute jobs given by supervision.
• A clear understanding and adherence to safety rules and regulations.
• Ability to work in all types of weather conditions (both inside and outside, varying heights)
• All other tasks as assigned.
Program Requirements:
• Complete 4,000 hours of OJT along with completion of classes at IVY Tech-2-year program (Technical Certificate)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to lift 50 pounds or more consistently.
