Director, Test Excellence

In this role, you’ll lead a team of innovators on a mission to make roads safer and save lives, using technology that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible. You will be instrumental in driving excellence in the quality of our solutions that provide a network of over 1 million connected vehicles streaming data insights and video. The Director of Test Excellence is a senior technical and people leader responsible for defining, evolving, and operationalizing a worldclass testing strategy across the organization. This role owns the end-to-end test excellence vision, spanning strategy, tooling, environments, data, automation, and AI driven quality innovation, while mentoring and leading high performing test automation team.

The Director partners closely with Engineering, Architecture, and Quality Governance to continuously improve product quality, accelerate delivery, and proactively prevent defects through modern, system level testing practices.

You’ll Get To:

Test Strategy & Vision

• Define, document, and continuously evolve a holistic, enterprise-wide test strategy aligned with business objectives, technology roadmap, and system architecture.
• Establish a strong system level testing mindset, including integration, end-to-end, performance, reliability, and failure mode testing.
• Deliver a testing platform and environments that allows a shift left and prevention first quality approach embedded across the SDLC.

Test Environments & Infrastructure

• Own the strategy, governance, and health of all testing environments, ensuring they are stable, scalable, production representative, and fit for purpose.
• Partner with Engineering and Infrastructure teams to improve environment availability, observability, and test execution reliability.

Tooling, Automation & AI

• Own and drive value from the testing tools ecosystem, including automation frameworks, CI/CD integrations, observability tooling, and AI powered solutions.
• Lead the adoption of AI enabled test detection, generation, automation, and self healing capabilities to increase coverage, reduce maintenance cost, and accelerate feedback loops.
• Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and practices to keep testing capabilities state-of-the-art.

Test Data & Simulation

• Define and manage test data strategy, including golden datasets, synthetic data generation, and simulation frameworks.
• Ensure test data supports realistic scenarios, edge cases, and failure conditions across environments.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and mentor test execution and test automation teams, setting clear technical direction, expectations, and growth paths.
• Manage a team of test automation engineers responsible for delivering against a multi‑year Test Excellence roadmap.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and experimentation within your team.
• Work with leadership to devise accurate resourcing and budget needs.

Quality Metrics & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate closely with the Quality Governance team to:
  • Review quality metrics, trends, and leading indicators
  • Analyze root causes of escaped defects and systemic issues
  • Drive preventative action planning and continuous improvement initiatives
• Use data and insights to prioritize investments and measure the impact of test excellence initiatives.

What You Need:

• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in software quality, test engineering, software engineering or related technical roles, with demonstrated leadership at scale.
• Experience applying AI/ML techniques to testing, automation, or quality analytics.
• Deep expertise in modern testing practices including automation, integration testing, end‑to‑end testing, and system testing.
• Proven experience owning test strategy, tooling, environments, and test data.
• Strong technical background with the ability to influence architecture and engineering decisions.
• Demonstrated success leading and mentoring high‑performing technical teams.
• Extensive experience in developing software in a scrum/Agile environment.
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
