Job Description:

The residency in Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia is a three year program in veterinary anesthesiology (small and large animal) with concurrent graduate studies. The program is designed to prepare the candidate for board eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.  The training program will utilize faculty of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) and other participating departments as mentors. Clinical facilities of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) will be the primary training location.
Job Responsibilities:
45%-Provide clinical care in the role of a veterinarian, i.e. examine patients, order tests, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments, and communicate with clients and referring veterinarians, for patients presented to their Specialty Service.  
25%-Provide clinical care in the role of a veterinarian in the emergency duty schedule (evening, weekend and holiday duty on a rotating schedule) with other members of their Specialty Service. 
10%-Participate in the clinical and tutorial instruction and evaluation of Phase II students, including daily student rounds; participate in preclinical didactic lecture and laboratory instruction as assigned by his/her mentor. 
10%-Participate in their Specialty Service Journal club, attend all HO Rounds/Seminar (VMED 7001) sessions and other seminars which are requirements of the resident’s home Specialty Service.
10%-Participate in research activities and manuscript preparation to fulfill the requirements of their program and qualify to sit the board exam of their specialty; and other duties as assigned. 
Minimum Requirements:
DVM or equivalent AND One year internship or equivalent related veterinary experience.

Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18. 

Requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching (above shoulder), reaching (below shoulder), vision (near sight), vision (far sight), crawling, twisting, pushing/pulling, climbing, squatting, lifting more than 50 pounds, and lifting less than 50 pounds.  

Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and "on-call"/relief shifts.
