Position Overview 

The Connector Designer is responsible for defining and developing innovative connector solutions from concept to series‑production readiness. This role collaborates closely with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure technical, functional, and economic excellence across all design activities.

 

Key Tasks

  • Define and coordinate technical requirements and specifications with internal departments, suppliers, and customers.
  • Develop conceptual solutions for components and assemblies within the assigned product group.
  • Evaluate functional, material, manufacturing, and economic aspects and align them with responsible departments.
  • Present alternative design options and conduct detailed constructive studies.
  • Perform design modifications and select appropriate design elements.
  • Mature design solutions to series‑production readiness.
  • Evaluate design alternatives based on customer requirements and cost implications.
  • Review and adapt existing designs for special requirements and coordinate implementation.
  • Analyze and evaluate assemblies, documentation, customer orders, and program requirements.
  • Lead design-related investigations (e.g., requirement specifications, DFMEA, feasibility, tolerance studies, calculations, prototype reviews).
  • Arrange measurements, experiments, and functional testing.
  • Evaluate items according to standards (e.g., LV214/215, USCAR).
  • Select materials and define manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare technical documentation and lists in certain level of detailing
  • Initiate and assess change requests
  • Conduct product and process benchmarking.
  • Ensure complete construction documentation and maintain data in relevant databases.
  • Perform patent research and coordinate with the Intellectual Property team on patent applications.

Key Requirements 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or comparable technical field, or certified technician qualification.
  • Experience: 3+ years in design engineering, product development, or CAD-based construction.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CATIA V5; strong understanding of plastic and metal component design
  • Knowledge: Solid grounding in electrical engineering principles, materials (plastics/metals) and related manufacturing processes (injection molding/stamping), and applicable standards (DIN, VDE, OEM specs).
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, effective communication and presentation abilities, good time management, teamwork orientation, and willingness to travel.
