Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for a skilled and motivated team lead to guide (power) electronic/electrical engineers pushing the power electronics propelling our vehicles to the next level. The team is presently working to improve the current - and design the next - generation of traction inverters and you will ensure project targets are met, while coordinating, assisting, and motivating the team wherever needed.   • Be the point of contact for any internal/external technical/organizational topics within the team.​

  • Identify and solve restrictions in daily work, define long term development plans, and everything in between, while motivating the team through challenges.​

  • Start to finish ownership of traction inverter hardware (PCBA and/or power stage) from specification to design, simulation, prototype, validation, and support high-volume manufacturing and field studies. ​

  • Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, test, and control/firmware engineering teams to successfully design, validate, and manufacture traction inverters.

  • M.Sc./Ph.D. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and evidence of exceptional ability. ​

  • 4 or more years of relevant hands-on hardware experience with designing and testing wide band-gap high voltage power converters and power stages, while managing a team of engineers.​

  • Relevant hands-on experience with designing and testing power PCBA (integrated circuits, gate drivers, sensors/signal conditioning, power supplies) and proficiency with laboratory equipment.​

  • Strong fundamentals of power semiconductors (switching waveforms, loss mechanisms) and passive electronic components (capacitor, inductors, and transformers) – modelling and selection.​

Additional Preferred Skills​

  • Understanding of traction inverters design trade-offs in automotive and with respect to electric motors.​

  • Experience with power converter design for high-volume automotive applications.​

  • Working knowledge of Matlab and/or Python.​

  • Knowledge in environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for automotive applications.
