About the role

AGL’s Energy Hubs team have an opportunity for a Land & Approvals Specialist where you will take responsibility for regulatory approval processes for our Energy Hub precinct projects across our operational sites, with a primary focus on the Hunter Energy Hub.

Based in NSW, Vic or QLD you will be supporting the transition of our thermal power generation sites into industrial energy hubs. The Energy Hubs team support sites across NSW, Victoria and SA, leveraging existing land, infrastructure and renewable energy and storage supply to support the development of new and existing industries on sites, in partnership with both Industry and Governments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and deliver integrated planning and environmental approvals strategies for Energy Hubs, including precinct-wide site readiness and enabling infrastructure
  • Lead change of land use proposals and development applications across Commonwealth, State and local pathways
  • Provide expert guidance on the EPBC Act and NSW planning framework, including SSD and SSI processes
  • Coordinate environmental assessments, applications and compliance documentation through external consultants and government agencies
  • Build constructive relationships with regulators, statutory authorities and internal stakeholders to support timely, risk‑based approvals
  • Align approvals sequencing with hub master planning, infrastructure delivery and commercial objectives, with AGL’s operational and transitional priorities.

 What you’ll bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in town planning, environmental planning, environmental science, law or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience leading planning and environmental approvals for major infrastructure or energy projects
  • Experience working within the EPBC Act and NSW planning system, including delivery of State Significant Development approvals
  • Capability to engage with water-related approvals or licensing pathways where required, supported by specialist teams
  • A collaborative approach to experience managing consultants and multi‑agency processes
  • Clear, inclusive communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with senior leaders and regulators
