Laboratory Technician

 Responsible for assistinESg SBP in meeting all of the site’s goals including safety, environmental, quality, volume,

cost, GMP, training, and personnel

 Always follow cGMP and GLP

 May prepare for and assist with CDL standardization and safety inspections

 Assist with Lab-ware tasks when lab-ware technician is out e.g. vacation and days off

 Maintain enough chemical and material inventories to meet daily media make-up and 12L flasks inoculation

 Maintaining CDL ISO procedures and responding to any CDL related non-conformities

 Participate in routine area inspections and safety walk-throughs

 Assist with identifying and implementing new processes and procedures

 Always follow company’s Cardinal Rules and J.M. Huber Principles

 May assist in coordinating maintenance of CDL equipment and computer systems

 Assist in the training as required and enforcing adherence to CDL/SBP standard operating procedures

 Implements and supports the environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) management system and the J.M. Huber

Corporation Quality & EH&S Policy

Must consistently demonstrate effective teamwork behavior, promotion of process efficiency, and effectively

communicate safety and procedural issues. Must demonstrate an ability to perform under conditions of continuous

physical activity. This position requires continuously performing all duties under conditions that require adherence to

safety standards and GMP Policy.

CDL Technician will use SOP and sample results to continuously monitor and analyze production processes report

and report results so changes can be made in fermentation.

Candidate must be able to work on a 24/7 working environment consisting of different shifts (e.g. day shift, swing shift

and grave-yard shift, Swing & Grave-yard relief shifts) and able to work overtime with very short notice, weekend and

Holidays coverage.

CDL technician position requires frequent interactions with Union operators, Lead personnel, Supervisors and

Engineers regarding experimental instructions, observations and results.

This position requires a high level of self-management, punctuality, good attendance, team work and ability to carry

out new assignments in a short notice.

All employees must follow CP Kelco, state, and federal guidelines concerning safety and environmental protection.

Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) conforming to Level C (general) & Level A (packaging) GMP

standards is required. Mandatory PPE includes a minimum of a hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, hearing

protection devices, steeled-toed footwear, gloves (hand protection), long pants and long-sleeve shirt. Additional PPE

may include smocks, coveralls, hair/beard nets, and/or masks as required by the CP Kelco GMP Policy.

Required Qualifications:

Science college courses desired, preferred in Microbiology and Chemistry. Possesses basic math and English

language reading skills appropriate with the scope of the position. Intermediate computer skills required: including

e-mail, word, and excel.

Must have a good knowledge of the operating procedures required to operate the following processes and/or ability to

learn them expeditiously:

 Bright field Microscope, pH meters, Viscometers, Centrifuges, YSI machine (sugar analyzers), scales,

refractometer

 Gram stains

 Identification of contaminants (e.g. gram positive, gram negative bacteria)

 Contamination prevention

 Frozen culture preparation and validation

 CDL autoclaves operation

 Aseptic techniques

 Contamination definition (Confirm Vs. Unconfirmed)

 Good interpersonal and communication skills

 Able to work in a team environment

 Able to work on a severe outside environment e.g. wet, loud, humid

Physical Requirements:

Must demonstrate an ability to perform under conditions of continuous physical activity. The employee must be

capable of operating specific lab equipment, grasping, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 15 pounds while

walking/climbing and working with CDL media12L flasks and sample caddy. Visual acuity requirements include

normal depth perception and 20/30 vision with or without correction. Must not be color blind.

DESIRED EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIANCES:

At least 2-3 years of laboratory experience or equivalent.

Requires high school diploma and a minimum of two years college-level Science courses.
