Job Costing Accountant

Position Overview: 

The Job Costing Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s commercial assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities to ensure accuracy, and resolves account discrepancies.  

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  

 Maintain intricate knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
 Manage the job costing process by ensuring all job costs are captured and confirming that job costs are matched with in-period revenue
 Ensure revenue is being recognized in compliance with GAAP
 Prepare monthly operational reports
 Assist the Accounts Payable team with any issues that affect the ledger
 Reconcile bank accounts monthly; verify deposits and withdrawals
 Partner with Operations to allocate labor costs per job  
 Record any required accruals, deferrals, depreciation, amortization, and inter-company entries
 Manage commission expense accruals and payments
 File tax forms and facilitate related payments for federal, state and local governments   
 Monitor accounts receivable aging and collections; escalate collection issues to management
 Review the financial statements for accuracy and completeness
 Prepare commentary on the financial statements and present financial results to leadership
 Maintain and reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts
 Support the external audit process through gathering necessary account information and documents required by the auditors
 Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance
 

Qualifications:  

 Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field required
 1 – 3 years of experience in a general accounting role  
 Experience using Quickbooks Online and/or Netsuite is preferred
 Intermediate Excel skills are preferred (XLOOKUP, pivot tables, IF functions) 
 Experience with construction accounting, ASC 606 revenue recognition, contracts, inventory, job costing, and/or AIA billing highly desirable  
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills
 Attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy  
 Strong time management skills along with the ability to meet deadlines
