Overview
Mid-level backend developer responsible for building and maintaining services within a platform that powers content management and digital marketing for multi-location businesses. The primary codebase is a large-scale Ruby on Rails application supported by multiple interconnected services, shared libraries, and third-party integrations.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain features across backend services, primarily in Ruby on Rails
· Design and implement RESTful APIs for internal and external consumers
· Build and maintain integrations with third-party platforms and property management systems
· Work with background job processing systems to handle asynchronous workflows at scale
· Write and maintain automated tests with enforced coverage standards
· Contribute to framework upgrades and shared library maintenance across the platform
· Diagnose and resolve production issues using monitoring and error tracking tools
· Conduct and participate in code reviews
· Support deployment and infrastructure in a containerized, cloud-hosted environmen
Qualifications
4-6 years of professional backend development experience
· Proficiency in a server-side language and framework (Ruby on Rails strongly preferred)
· Strong understanding of relational databases - query optimization, indexing, migrations, and data modeling
· Experience with background job processing and asynchronous workflows
· Experience building and consuming REST APIs, including third-party API integrations
· Track record of writing and maintaining automated tests
· Proficiency with Git and pull request-based development workflows
· Ability to work effectively within a large, established codebase and across multiple services
Preferred
· Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, or Sidekiq
· Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or container orchestration
· Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
· Experience with CI/CD pipelines and code quality tooling
· Understanding of authentication and authorization patterns
· Experience with framework or language version upgrades in production systems
· Familiarity with shared library or gem development and maintenance
· Exposure to front-end frameworks (Vue.js) for full-stack contributions when needed
