Intern, Software Engineering (Summer 2026)

Allegiant Air has an open Intern position in our Software Engineering department. The Software Engineer, Intern helps with a number of tasks as an important part of the Allegiant Team. They dive right in to an Agile Scrum team and learn what makes high performing teams tick. They solve the problems of a number of different products as they gain real experience. The Intern also experiences what true software development is while working on the frontend, backend, database, and more. From building a Slackbot that alerts everyone of treats in the breakroom to creating a display board of flight statuses our Interns can handle it all!

Summary:
The Software Engineer Internship is an outstanding opportunity that provides a vehicle to apply knowledge attained from coursework as well as to learn real world software development practices related to software development and software test automation. The Intern must be willing to accept assignments that may include working with SQL, Java, JavaScript, ReactJS, AngualrJS, or other programming languages and frameworks. In addition to these languages, the Intern will learn the use of test automation frameworks and tools that are currently being used by the Allegiant SET team.

Minimum Requirements:
Combination of Education and Experience will be considered. Must be authorized to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986. Must pass a Criminal Background Check.

Education:    
High School Diploma/GED

Education Details:    
Currently enrolled or recently graduated with a Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited program in Information Technology, Engineering, or Computer Science with a UNIX Engineering and Dev OPS focus.

To be qualified to apply intern candidates should be currently enrolled in a college or university, or a recent graduate within the last six months with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Years of Experience:    
Minimum two (2) years of college course work in Information Technology, Engineering or Computer Science.


•    Ability to demonstrate use of logic and problem-solving capabilities.
•    Self-starter who is not intimidated by technology or software tools.
•    Willingness and ability to contribute to the efforts of the team.
•    Demonstrated excellent relationship building skills.

Preferred Requirements:
•    Ability to manipulate and present data using MS Excel.
•    Completed advance coursework in a programming language; preferably Java, JavaScript, AngularJS, or ReactJS.
•    Passion for project management or business intelligence.

Job Duties:
•    Complete projects that help Allegiant IT evolve existing projects.
•    Analyze code and reduce technical debt.
•    Streamline UI and migrate apps from AngularJS to ReactJS.
•    Evaluate and increase unit test coverage.
•    Implement code in MVC design pattern.
•    Execute in writing or enhancing RESTful APIs to connect web applications to backend services.
•    Write Daemon scripts the monitor server load and alert the DBA team.
•    Participate in software maintenance including quality and stability initiatives.
•    Support other team members with web services and performance testing tasks.
•    Evaluate tools/frameworks that are being considered by the IT development organization.
•    Other duties as assigned.

Office/IT - While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, key board, printer, and phone. May be required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. May be required to work various shifts/days in a 24 hour situation. Regular attendance is a requirement of the role. Exposure to moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, printers, and foot traffic), temperature and light fluctuations. Ability to work in a confined area as well as the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Some travel may be a requirement of the role.
