ILS Analyst
The ILS Analyst will support the Head of ILS solutions in the execution, monitoring and management of Markel’s trading relationship with Nephila, as well as support any future ILS related projects and initiatives. This role sits within Markel Bermuda and works closely with ceded re, legal, actuarial, FP&A and cat modelling. The ILS Analyst will play a key role in collateral tracking, transaction support, financial modelling and internal stakeholder coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Support
Assist in the preparation of transaction summaries, facility snapshots, memorandums, and presentations for executive leadership.
Track compliance with key contractual provisions in quota shares, underwriting guidelines and other relevant documents.
Support closing processes and coordinate execution of transaction and facility documentation across legal, ceded re and underwriting.
Facility and Fund Monitoring
Coordinate with Ceded Re to track collateral on an aggregate and individual fund basis to ensure ramp up and ramp down of required collateral amounts is in line with strategy.
Monitor existing facilities for material changes in portfolio composition, counterparty concentration and changes to tail metrics.
Assist in monitoring collateral sufficiency relative to exposure.
Financial Modelling, Dashboarding and Reporting
Work with finance to ingest monthly bordereau reporting for existing Nephila initiatives.
Assist in building and maintaining a strategy dashboard to share key insights with senior leaders on an ongoing basis
Track performance of initiatives and calculate and project fee and underwriting income streams
Understand loss scenario and sensitivity analyses
Respond to internal data and reporting requests
Contribute to the continuous development of Markel’s ILS strategy
Identify process or infrastructure enhancements to help improve internal and external alignment.
Conduct market research to help keep senior leadership informed on industry developments
Provide insights and supporting data to assist in identifying possible opportunity areas for Markel
Attend industry events to understand changes in the ILS market and financial markets more generally.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
1-3 years of experience in underwriting, capital markets or asset management
Intermediate Excel and presentation skills
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
Advanced degree or professional designation preferred (MBA, MSc, CFA or CPA)
