About Atlassian Software Collection

Atlassian’s Software Collection is a suite of AI-augmented tools and services designed to elevate engineering teams’ productivity, developer experience, and software delivery standards. It brings together flagship products and new AI-powered solutions to provide end-to-end visibility, automation, and governance across the software development lifecycle.

About the Role

The Head of Design will lead the Software Collection Design Team,and work closely with product and engineering leadership. This executive role is responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and execution for design across a portfolio of AI-powered developer tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership in AI-powered developer tooling and design systems

  • Set and execute design strategy for a portfolio of products with significant revenue potential

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and product leadership to deliver best-in-class developer experiences

  • Drive innovation, experimentation, and rapid iteration (MVP, agile process)

  • Maintain a high bar for design craft while influencing technical teams

  • Lead and inspire a team of designers, fostering a positive, low-attrition culture

  • Develop smart integration methods and operate effectively in ambiguity

  • Represent design needs alongside engineers and product managers

  • Lead teams through transformation and transition, ensuring cultural alignment

Must-Haves

  • Deep experience in developer productivity/services/experiences (e.g., from companies like GitHub, Cursor, Vercel, Replit, MSFT)

  • Technically deep enough to spar with Head of Engineering leaders

  • Proven track record of high craft standards (Artist/Business archetype)

  • Strong experimentation capability: ability to fail fast, iterate, and deliver MVPs

  • Effective cross-functional collaboration and leadership

Nice to Haves

  • Demonstrated culture fit and ability to lead teams with low attrition rates

  • AI- Integration - Experience with AI-powered products and services

Additional Qualities

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and independent action

  • Experience leading teams through organizational transformation or transition

  • High leadership IQ and strong referral culture

  • Ability to define vision and set timelines for new, greenfield products

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.

In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: USD 267300 - USD 348975

Zone B: USD 241200 - USD 314900

Zone C: USD 222300 - USD 290225

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
