Head of Analytics and Insights
Purpose of the Role Lead SGN’s DataOps and Data Analytics (A I) capabilities to deliver trusted insight and performance reporting that drives operational, regulatory and strategic outcomes. Define and execute the enterprise analytics strategy, standardise metrics and semantic models, and grow self‑service and data literacy. Collaborate with Information Management (governance/architecture) to ensure analytics requirements are delivered safely and efficiently. Support major programmes (e.g., Salesforce and Fusion) with analytics scope, success measures and consumption‑layer design. Key Responsibilities Data Insight Leadership The organisation requires a strong data leader who can advocate for the team, ensuring that workload and priorities are balanced, training and development requirements are met and junior staff/apprentices are appropriately supported, and to champion data across the business and be an anchor for the data communities of practice. Analytics Strategy Portfolio Define the analytics strategy, KPI framework and outcomes roadmap aligned to business priorities and regulatory commitments. Own the analytics intake and prioritisation process; maintain a value‑led backlog and benefits tracking for dashboards, reports and advanced analysis. Rationalise and standardise reporting across functions; retire duplication and drive adoption of common metrics and definitions. I nsight Delivery Decision Support Lead design and delivery of executive, regulatory and operational dashboards (e.g., Power BI) with clear narratives, QA and sign‑off. Define and maintain analytics semantic models and consumption‑layer data sets; ensure re‑use across portfolios. Provide decision support and ad‑hoc analysis for leadership forums with clear, timely and actionable insights. Self‑Service Literacy Establish analytics patterns, standards and templates; enable self‑service with training, guides and a community of practice. Uplift data literacy across SGN with targeted enablement for product owners and domain teams. Data Collaboration (with IM) Translate business questions into analytics data requirements and data‑contract terms for ingestion/modelling. Work with Information Management to align to data policies, definitions and ownership; escalate data issues and data‑debt items via the correct forums. Agree SLAs with platform teams for refresh, quality checks and incident handling that protect analytics service levels. Standards, Methods Quality Own visualisation guidelines, naming conventions, documentation and release processes for analytics products. Embed assurance (peer review, testing, usage monitoring) and manage catalogue/lineage for analytics artefacts. People Leadership Build and lead a high‑performing Analytics Insight team; define roles, career paths and coaching plans. Foster a delivery culture focused on user experience, adoption and measurable business value. Stakeholders External Partner with programme leads (Salesforce/Fusion), Product Groups and IT PMO to scope analytics deliverables, success measures and landing plans. Engage with regulators, networks and partners on analytics outputs and evidence where required (working with IM and EDA for policy). Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Essential: Significant experience leading analytics/BI teams in complex or regulated environments. Expertise in enterprise reporting and visualisation (e.g., Power BI), semantic modelling and KPI definition. Track record of portfolio planning, value prioritisation and benefits realisation for analytics products. Strong data storytelling and stakeholder management skills, including executive engagement. Working knowledge of data platforms and modelling approaches, collaborating effectively with governance/architecture teams. Excellent standards discipline (templates, naming, documentation) and product lifecycle management for analytics. Desirable: Experience with cloud data stacks supporting analytics DAX/SQL proficiency. Utilities/CNI sector experience and familiarity with Ofgem‑aligned reporting needs. Experience enabling self‑service at scale (training assets, communities of practice, adoption measures).
