About the role

AGL has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Governance, Risk & Compliance Advisor to join AGL’s Transition Excellence team who support the safe, responsible and efficient transition of sites for future opportunities across the Energy Assets portfolio.  

Location: This role can be based in our corporate offices in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney or Newcastle offices, or select operational sites at Torrens Island or Bayswater, with flexibility to work from AGL offices and regular travel to project and operational sites as required. You’ll be part of a high‑impact, collaborative team working at the centre of AGL’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.

What you will be doing

As the Governance, Risk & Compliance Advisor, you will provide governance, risk and compliance leadership across AGL’s Site Transition portfolio, ensuring strong oversight, regulatory alignment and effective risk management across complex asset transition programs.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading the operationalisation of governance, risk and compliance frameworks across the Site Transition portfolio, aligned with AGL policies, standards and industry best practice

  • Maintaining and continuously improving risk and compliance registers through stakeholder engagement and structured review processes

  • Leading risk assessments, control verification activities and strategic risk discussions across high‑risk asset transition projects

  • Providing governance, risk and compliance advice to project teams, supporting adherence to legislation, professional standards and internal policies

  • Producing high‑quality governance, risk and compliance reporting, including project summaries, Board and executive materials and approval documentation

  • Supporting audit and assurance activities and partnering with stakeholders across Energy Assets, legal, risk and assurance teams

  • Identifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities across governance processes, reporting, risk and compliance practices

What you will bring

To succeed in this role, you will bring strong governance and risk expertise, excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to operate confidently in complex, regulated environments:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in risk management, project management, business or a related discipline

  • Demonstrated experience in governance, risk and compliance roles within complex, regulated environments such as energy, utilities or infrastructure

  • Strong understanding of governance frameworks, risk assessment methodologies and compliance management practices

  • Experience leading risk assessments, maintaining registers and supporting audit and assurance activities

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, practical advice

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability across multidisciplinary teams

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a sustainable, structured way

  • Experience working across major projects, asset transition, closure or rehabilitation environments is highly regarded
