How you create impact

The Global Sales Vertical Lead drives sustained growth within a defined industry vertical key account program. The role leads an assigned commercial team to build and extend partnerships and consistently reach growth targets. Combining strategic direction of long-term end-to-end value partnerships with hands-on involvement in own account assignments as well as high-impact customer opportunities within the team. Leveraging industry expertise and strong relationship-building capabilities. The position enables tailored leadership and coaching to strengthens success-critical customer relationships and expands profitable business across all products and services. 

Working in close alignment with the Head of Global Business Development, the role contributes to the execution of Kuehne + Nagel’s global key account strategy, ensuring customer journeys reflect scale, complexity, and long-term partnership potential. The Global Sales Vertical Lead fosters cross‑functional and cross‑regional collaboration, promotes best‑practice sharing, and reinforces accountability and commercial excellence within the vertical. Acting as an ambassador of KN values, the position shapes the company’s vertical market positioning, anticipates emerging industry dynamics, and supports teams in developing senior‑level stakeholder relationships. Ultimately, the role ensures a consistent, customer‑centric, and performance‑driven approach that advances the vertical’s global growth ambitions.

Leadership, Coaching, and Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop assigned vertical KAM team, fostering a culture of accountability, empowerment, and continuous skills enhancement.
  • Ensure adoption of global governance, commercial methodologies, knowledge-sharing, and best practices across countries, hemispheres, and functions.
  • Actively support recruitment and onboarding of commercially skilled talent with the right behavioral attributes to complement the team best.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation, promoting ownership, responsiveness, and solution‑oriented behavior throughout the account team.

Customer Engagement and Strategic Relationship Development

  • Build and nurture trust‑based relationships with key stakeholders across global key accounts (GA), ensuring deep understanding of customer needs and long‑term partnership development.
  • Manage a selected portfolio of strategic accounts in the role of Global Account Manager or Network Account Manager, ensuring consistent performance and proactive opportunity development.
  • Support the shaping, negotiation, and execution of major business opportunities that are critical to the vertical's global success.
  • Strongly collaborate with key network countries to ensure aligned customer strategies, consistent delivery, and seamless global execution.

Industry Strategy Execution and Market Insight

  • Translate industry‑specific trends into actionable strategic direction for the team, in line with the global vertical strategy.
  • Identify emerging growth opportunities, new markets, customer segments, product innovations, or partnerships, and guide teams in developing relevant value propositions.
  • Communicate industry developments and implications effectively to global and national teams.
  • Strengthen the vertical’s value narrative, ensuring a compelling, industry-specific differentiation.

Performance, Pipeline, and Commercial Discipline

  • Monitor commercial performance (Volumes, DQ, performance KPI's) and initiate corrective actions where needed to ensure sustainable, profitable growth.
  • Secure a robust, accurate and future-proof pipeline, ensuring qualification of KN potential, high data quality, forecasting discipline, and adherence to CoreLOG standards.
  • Drive high closing ratios aligned with vertical growth targets and support target setting for key accounts and team members.
  • Ensure the industry customer portfolio reflects strategic fit, scalability, and long‑term partnership potential.
