We’re a bold future focused organisation, leading the way with renewable energy and working toward a sustainable future. A place where our people deliver on our company’s purpose - Tiakina te anamata, mā te tūhono i ngā tāngata me ngā wāhi o te inamata. Taking care of tomorrow: connecting people and place today. This pushes us to do all we can to create a better future for our people, communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
At Mercury, we’re on a mission to achieve operational excellence by building a resilient workforce. Our Generation team is at the forefront of innovation, continuously improving performance through optimised maintenance practices and cutting-edge reliability engineering. With 9 hydro stations on the Waikato river, five geothermal plants located in the Central North Island and New Zealand’s biggest wind farms, we offer excellent career pathways and opportunities to be exposed to all areas of power generation.
We have some major projects in motion as we strongly support and play a leading role in New Zealand’s successful transition to a low-carbon economy. Some of these projects include:
Karāpiro Hydro Rehabilitation Project: Nestled along the majestic Waikato River, this project is replacing three 60 year old turbine and generator units. The result? An additional 50 years of asset life and a significant boost in station output – from 96MW to an impressive 123MW.
Geothermal Centralised Operations (GCOP): Our focus extends to geothermal activity. CGOP is revolutionising operations across Ngā Awa Pūrua, Rotokawa, Ngā Tamariki and Kawerau sites. Imagine remote capabilities powered by a custom-designed Central Control Room right at Ngā Awa Pūrua. Go-live is just around the corner!
Ngā Tamariki’s OEC 5 Expansion: We’re expanding! Our fifth generating unit is set to increase output by a whopping 46MW. That’s equivalent to providing power for an additional 55,000 households.
Mercury offers a chance to shape tomorrow’s energy landscape. Curious? Come and join us and be part of something extraordinary!
