Location: Northern New England
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site Leadership Role
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Compensation: 300k base, 40% bonus, long term incentives

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead a well-established specialty contracting business focused on drywall, acoustical ceilings (ACT), and exterior siding systems across commercial, institutional, and multifamily construction projects in northern New England.

For more than three decades, the company has built a strong reputation for craftsmanship, reliability, and trusted relationships with general contractors and partners across the region. As the organization enters its next phase of growth, the General Manager will succeed the founding leadership team and assume full responsibility for the company’s operational and financial performance.

This leader will oversee all major business functions, including preconstruction, project delivery, safety, and finance, while maintaining the culture and values that have driven the company’s success. At the same time, the role will focus on strengthening operational discipline, improving processes and data visibility, and supporting scalable growth as part of a broader construction services platform.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Financial Leadership

  • Own and manage the full P&L, ensuring strong profitability, cash flow, and long-term business performance

  • Partner with executive leadership to define strategic priorities, annual goals, and performance metrics

  • Lead the development and execution of annual budgets, forecasts, and operating plans

  • Monitor financial performance, job cost trends, and margin discipline while identifying opportunities for improvement

  • Champion data-driven decision-making through the use of dashboards, reporting tools, and performance metrics

Commercial & Operational Excellence

  • Oversee all core operational functions including preconstruction, project management, field operations, safety, and finance

  • Drive continuous improvement in systems, processes, and tools to support scalability and operational consistency

  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, and to a high standard of quality

  • Partner closely with preconstruction leadership to align estimating, sales pipelines, and operational capacity

  • Strengthen relationships with general contractors and key partners while supporting business development initiatives

  • Support leadership in identifying, evaluating, and integrating strategic acquisitions

  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability across all operations

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and develop department heads and emerging leaders across the organization

  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration

  • Attract, retain, and mentor high-performing talent across operational and administrative functions

  • Work closely with the founding leadership team during the transition period to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer

  • Invest in employee development, training programs, and career progression opportunities

  • Serve as a visible and approachable leader who models professionalism, integrity, and humility

Cultural Stewardship & Organizational Growth

  • Preserve the values, relationships, and craftsmanship that have defined the company’s success

  • Guide the organization through operational modernization while maintaining cultural continuity

  • Communicate change in a transparent and respectful manner, ensuring employee engagement across all levels

  • Build alignment between established practices and new systems designed to support long-term growth

Partnership & Business Growth

  • Collaborate with platform leadership to share best practices and align operational standards

  • Support business development efforts through relationships with contractors, owners, and suppliers

  • Evaluate opportunities for expansion, including new services, markets, or strategic partnerships

  • Represent the company externally with professionalism and credibility within the construction community

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience within construction, specialty contracting, or related trades

  • Proven track record of P&L ownership, operational leadership, and strategic planning

  • Strong understanding of commercial construction operations, including estimating, project management, and field execution

  • Experience leading organizations through growth, operational improvement, or leadership transition

  • Demonstrated success managing multiple teams and services across a broad geographic region

  • Strong financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust across field teams, management, and executive stakeholders

  • Deep respect for craftsmanship, customer relationships, and the values of a founder-led organization
