About Our Family
We are a busy, engaged family of five relocating from Boston to the St. Louis area in summer 2026. Our family includes three children—ages 11, 9, and 4—who will each be attending different schools and participating in a variety of activities.
Both parents work full-time in demanding, often unpredictable roles, which means schedules can shift and require flexibility. Mom will be working largely from home office during the first year in St. Louis, but with occasional travel back to Boston for work. With no established local support network in St. Louis, we’re looking for a trusted partner to help manage the day-to-day logistics of family life.
Our home is warm and structured, and we value routine, communication, and mutual respect. We keep a kosher household and are happy to provide clear guidance for anyone unfamiliar with those practices.
This role is a blend of household management and active family support, ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, managing moving pieces, and helping a busy home run smoothly behind the scenes.
Top Priorities for This Role
While the responsibilities below reflect the full scope of the role, the day-to-day focus centers on:
- School & activity logistics: managing pickups, drop-offs, and transportation across multiple schools and activities.
- After-school support: helping children transition home, manage homework, and stay on track in the afternoons.
- Meal & kitchen support: preparing simple, family-friendly dinners in alignment with kosher guidelines, with enough flexibility for one or both parents to join when home. Keeping the kitchen stocked with the staples, a list provided at the beginning of employment and kept fairly constant.
- Household management & flow: overseeing laundry, organization, errands, family calendars, vendor coordination, recurring vehicle/home maintenance, and the behind-the-scenes systems that keep the household functioning smoothly.
What a Typical Day & Success in This Role Might Look Like
Your day may begin with focused household support—laundry, errands, meal prep, and general organization—so the home is set up before the kids return. From there, you’ll transition into after-school responsibilities, including coordinating pickups, managing activity transportation, and helping the kids settle in, start homework, and move into the evening routine. With three kids at three different schools, the hours of 5:00–8:00 PM will often involve close collaboration with at least mom. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys partnering in real time, dividing and conquering across homework, activities, dinner, and bedtime logistics to help weeknights run smoothly. On infrequent occasions, the House Manager may independently lead this window if both parents are unavailable.
You will likely prepare a simple dinner, pack 1 lunch for the next day (older two boys get lunch at school), and reset the kitchen and main living spaces so everything is ready for the night ahead.
Over time, success in this role means:
- The home is organized and prepared before the afternoon rush
- The kids are where they need to be—on time and supported in their routines
- Afternoons and evenings feel structured, calm, and well-managed
- Meals, laundry, and household needs are handled consistently.
- The family can focus on work and time together, knowing everything else is taken care of
Who You Are / What We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate is experienced, steady, and enjoys supporting both children and household operations. You are confident in managing multiple moving pieces, communicating clearly, and bringing a calm, capable presence to a busy home.
You are someone who is:
- Experienced and mature, ideally with a background in childcare, education, or household management
- Highly organized and proactive, able to manage schedules, logistics, and daily routines
- A safe, confident driver, comfortable transporting children regularly
- Warm but firm with children, able to support an older child who may test boundaries
- Flexible and communicative, able to adapt to changing schedules week-to-week
- Professional and discreet, with strong respect for privacy and boundaries in a family home
- Capable in the kitchen, preparing simple, healthy meals and following kosher guidelines
- Reliable and consistent, with strong follow-through
This role is best suited for someone who enjoys hands-on household support and active involvement with children, rather than someone looking for a purely administrative or childcare-only role. You take pride in creating structure, maintaining systems, and helping a home run smoothly.
Candidates with experience in education, caregiving, or household management—including those who have raised children of their own—often thrive in this role.
