About the Role
Our Film & TV Production Level 6 programme is an intensive, industry-facing qualification designed to produce graduates who are work ready and world ready. Professionalism, collaboration, and high production standards sit at the heart of everything we do.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Film Tutor to lead and deliver teaching in:

  • Drama Directing
  • Scriptwriting
  • Performance-led storytelling for screen
  • Narrative development from concept to final production

    This role focuses on developing strong visual storytellers who understand working with actors, interpreting scripts, leading creative teams, and delivering compelling screen narratives within real-world production environments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver engaging, industry-relevant teaching within the Level 6 programme
    • Guide ākonga through the development of original scripts
    • Mentor students in directing actors and shaping performance for screen
    • Support students through pre-production, production, and post-production phases
    • Assess student work in alignment with NZQA and Graduate Profile Outcomes
    • Maintain strong industry standards and professional expectations
    • Contribute to moderation, curriculum development, and programme improvement
    • Support and embed a Te Ao Māori approach within teaching practice, demonstrating respect for tikanga, te reo Māori, and culturally responsive storytelling

    About You

    You will bring:

    • Demonstrated industry experience in drama directing and/or screenwriting
    • A strong understanding of narrative structure, character development, and visual storytelling
    • Experience working with actors in a screen context
    • The ability to mentor emerging creatives with clarity, empathy, and high expectations
    • A commitment to inclusive teaching practice and culturally responsive delivery
    • An understanding of professional set protocols and collaborative filmmaking

    Teaching experience and/or NZCATT qualification is desirable but not essential, what matters most is your ability to translate industry practice into meaningful learning experiences.
