Job Description:
This position plays a critical role in providing technical hardware support for Microchip’s In-Vehicle Networking (IVN) portfolio, specifically focusing on the integration of next-generation controller designs for Automotive OEMs and Tier-1 clients. As the industry shifts toward Software Defined Vehicles (SDV) and Zonal Architectures, you will lead the hardware integration of Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) technologies—including 10BASE-T1S (IEEE 802.3cg) and 100/1000BASE-T1—along with automotive Ethernet switches.
Additionally, you will support Industrial Ethernet switch designs by leveraging Microchip’s managed switch solutions (VSC series and IStaX SDK), positioning yourself as a high-level network hardware expert across both automotive and industrial sectors.
Job Responsibilities
- Automotive SPE & HW Design Support: Review schematics and PCB layouts for 10BASE-T1S and Ethernet PHY/Switch in next-gen OEM/Tier-1 platforms.
- Automotive Reliability & EMC Debugging: Optimize MDI circuits and perform on-site debugging to meet strict automotive EMC standards (CISPR 25, BCI, radiated/conducted noise).
- MAC-PHY Interoperability & Joint Debugging: Lead HW interface (MII/RMII/RGMII) verification and joint debugging with 3rd-party MCU/MPU platforms.
- Industrial Ethernet Switch Support: Guide hardware design for IStaX-based multi-port switches and support redundancy protocol implementations (MRP, HSR, PRP).
- Client & Channel Engagement: Lead HW design workshops and technical training for customers and distributor FAEs to drive design wins.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Engineering Skill Set & Standards
- Automotive Ethernet: Understanding of IEEE 802.3cg (10BASE-T1S & PLCA), IEEE 802.3bw/bp (100/1000BASE-T1), and OPEN Alliance TC8/TC14 (Interoperability & Sleep/Wake-up).
- Automotive Standards: Familiarity with ISO 7637, CISPR 25 (EMC/EMI & Transient), and ISO 26262 (Functional Safety, including FMEDA and Pin FMEA).
- Industrial & General Networking: Knowledge of IEEE 802.1Q (VLAN), IEEE 1588v2/802.1AS (PTP/TSN), and IEC 62439-2/3 (MRP, HSR/PRP).
- Automotive Ethernet Protocol Analysis Tools: Teledyne LeCroy, Keysight, Tektronix, Rohde-schwarz
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in semiconductor HW FAE/AE roles or HW circuit design at an Automotive Tier-1/OEM.
- Proven track record in Signal Integrity (SI) analysis and automotive Ethernet solution design.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English for technical documentation and collaboration with global R&D/Application Engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of CAR OEM design processes and EMC/reliability evaluation standards.
- Hands-on experience with HW design and debugging for high-performance automotive MPU/MCU (NXP i.MX, Renesas RZ/V850, TI Sitara, etc.).
- Experience supporting industrial Ethernet switches (VSC series) and redundancy protocol hardware.
- Familiarity with embedded software environments (Linux, RTOS, Bare Metal) to facilitate SW-HW integration troubleshooting.
- Proactive collaboration mindset and excellent presentation skills for client engagement.
- Proficient in writing technical English documents and smooth communication with global organizations.
