Hardware Engineering Intern – Robotics & Automated Test Systems
About Us
Epia Neuro is a neural technology company developing intent-driven systems designed to restore function and independence for people living with neurological conditions. Its platform integrates implantable neural interfaces, adaptive algorithms, and assistive devices to translate neural intent into real-world action. The company’s initial focus is stroke-related motor impairment, with expansion in cognitive decline and other neurological disorders, focusing on long-term solutions for the growing aging population.
How We Work
We are intentional. We prioritize and are thoughtful about how we use others’ time.
We care for others. We prioritize safety both for patients and one another.
We own outcomes, not just tasks. Our work demands the highest standards because it impacts real patients and real lives.
Humility is a strength. We are honest about what we know and what we don’t know. Getting it right matters more than being right.
About the Role
We are a fast-moving startup looking for a hands-on engineering intern to develop a robot-assisted automated testing and characterization system.
This role sits at the intersection of robotics, hardware systems, and automation. You will build a system that uses a robotic arm to execute standardized test procedures and collect structured data for device characterization.
This is a highly practical role where you will work directly with real hardware, sensors, and robotic systems, and your work will be used by the team.
Why This Role is Unique
Build a robot-assisted testing system from scratch
Work across robotics, hardware, and software systems
High ownership: you will own key components of the system
Direct impact on how devices are tested and validated
Exposure to real-world hardware characterization workflows
What You’ll Do
Develop robotic arm control scripts for automated and repeatable test execution
Build a Python-based test automation framework
Design and implement data acquisition and logging pipelines
Create a simple GUI tool for running automated tests
Interface with hardware systems (devices, sensors, test setups)
Develop and standardize test procedures and workflows
Debug and improve system performance in a hands-on lab environment
Must-Have Qualifications
Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
Strong programming skills in Python (required)
Experience working with robotics systems, actuators, or motor control
Hands-on experience with hardware systems or lab setups
Comfortable with debugging real systems (not just simulation or software)
Experience building or working with automation, control systems, or experimental setups
Nice to Have
Experience with robot arms, ROS, or motion control frameworks
Familiarity with data acquisition (DAQ), sensors, or instrumentation systems
Experience with Arduino or embedded systems
Experience with data analysis (Python)
Experience working on robotics or research projects involving hardware + software integration
