The Passive Safety Team plans, executes, analyzes, and reports on crash, sled, and component-level testing for vehicle development, regulatory certification, and consumer protection programs (e.g., Euro NCAP).  The team consists of Test Engineers and Engineering Technicians, specializing in a variety of disciplines.  The Passive Safety team is constructing a new test lab in Berlin, Germany, where this position will be based, with regular travel (approx. 30%) to external partner facilities in Europe.

  • Work in a team-based environment to commission new test equipment and lab capabilities, and execute airbag deployment, pedestrian and interior impact, and vehicle structural strength testing in our Berlin test lab
  • Retrofit and prepare test vehicles per defined configurations; install and remove test fixtures or ballast as required; document test-setup details; collect and analyze test data; report incidents discovered during testing; and support teardown activities at internal and partner test labs across Europe
  • Maintain and calibrate test and lab equipment, write and improve test procedures, and continuously drive test lab and process efficiency
  • Perform pre- and post-test vehicle and crash test dummy measurements using a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM)
  • Organize, label, and store test samples and components
  • Decommission vehicles, including removing and discharging high-voltage battery packs, and prepare crashed vehicles for recycling or scrapyard processing
  • Champion Tesla’s culture of safety by maintaining rigorous safety protocols and environmentally responsible work practices
  • Broad experience diagnosing, repairing, and replacing components on hybrid or BEV passenger vehicles; Tesla-specific or certified BEV experience preferred. The job requires regular lifting and carrying of loads up to 23 KG
  • Experience with data acquisition systems (DTS, Kistler, or HBM) and equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs), hydraulic test systems, or crash sleds preferred
  • Experience with Euro NCAP or other regulatory crash or component testing preferred
  • Ability to use computers effectively for diagnostics and test reporting (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Jira, Tesla-specific diagnostic tools)
  • Strong English technical communication skillset, to communicate verbally and digitally with international colleagues.
  • Proactive mindset with a strong desire to do things right, adapt quickly to changing requirements, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Associate degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology from an accredited institution, or Automotive OEM Test Technician Training, and/or demonstrated proficiency through relevant work experience
