About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
The Engineer, Mechanical Reliabliy will improve the safety, availability, and life-cycle performance of process plant assets by preventing mechanical failures through proactive reliability engineering, data-driven analysis, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties
- Identify issues/defects and improvement opportunities by analyzing equipment performance, process delays, costs, asset management KPI’s and maintenance history in SAP
- Develop project plans for reliability improvement initiatives in line with Newmont’s Defect Elimination Process
- Develop and manage equipment maintenance strategies using Reliability Centered Maintenance methodology and PM optimization for existing strategies on equipment not meeting availability or reliability requirements
- Compile and distribute key asset performance indicators including availability and utilization
- Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) sessions using RCA guidelines to identify failure causes, containment and counter measures as necessary
- Develop lifecycle cost models for critical assets and monitor and quantify equipment lifecycle costs
- Investigate and adopt alternative strategies to support capital replacement plan
- Actively participate and contribute to safety improvements and environmental awareness.
Training & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Registered with IEPNG
- Demonstrated fixed plant reliability engineering experience in large-scale mine operations
- Understanding of mining industry asset maintenance and reliability methods i.e. defect elimination, criticality analysis, asset strategy development, operate for reliability, condition monitoring, etc
- Understanding of safety compliance and regulations
- Knowledge of root cause analysis, problem solving, and other analytical techniques
- Knowledge of mine operations Fixed Plant and mine processing equipment
- Knowledge of maintenance strategies, Master data management and Reliability Centered Maintenance principles
- Experience in Failure Modes Effects Analysis facilitation and workshop delivery
- Skills in mining industry specific failure metrics and data analytics – i.e. MTBF, MTTR
