Director, Government Relations and Regulatory Strategy

Division: Corporate Affairs & Marketing March 13, 2026 Full Time Workday

Government Relations and Regulatory Strategy (GRRS) plays a meaningful role in crafting the environment in which LSEG operates. We advance the Group’s policy priorities, strengthen our reputation with decision‑makers, and provide strategic advice on reputational risk and business initiatives.

Our work is anchored in four pillars: advocacy, engagement, thought leadership, and advisory. Through this work, we help influence policy outcomes that support market integrity, innovation, and long-term growth, while positioning LSEG as a trusted and partner to policymakers around the world.

GRRS is a team of nearly 30 professionals based in 11 offices globally. Our colleagues represent 14 nationalities and speak 16 languages, offering both international perspective and deep local insight. You will be part of a collaborative, high‑impact team with high visibility across the Group.

The role

We are looking for a leader within the Global GRRS team who is motivated to deliver regulatory and policy outcomes in Japan, one of our most important markets in the Asia‑Pacific region.

In this role, you will play an integral role in delivering LSEG’s policy agenda across priority areas such as capital markets, technology and data, sustainability, and operational resilience. You will have meaningful ownership of key relationships, regular exposure to senior leaders, and the opportunity to influence how the Group positions itself on emerging regulatory and political issues.

This is a role for someone motivated by impact. You will help define policy positions, drive engagement strategies, and find opportunities where LSEG can contribute thought leadership and solutions to sophisticated challenges facing our industry.

What you’ll be doing

You will:

  • Own the development and execution of LSEG’s advocacy and engagement strategy for Japan, with clear accountability for outcomes.
  • Partner closely with business divisions and central functions on policy priorities that support commercial objectives and long‑term strategy.
  • Track and interpret regulatory, political, and geopolitical developments in Japan, translating them into insights, risks, and opportunities for the business.
  • Build and deepen relationships with regulators, policymakers, and other relevant parties, representing LSEG with credibility and influence.
  • Produce high‑impact briefings, policy papers, and thought‑leadership materials for senior executives and Group leadership.
  • Represent LSEG at selected industry forums, roundtables, and public events, growing our visibility and profile in Japan.
  • Contribute to global GRRS initiatives, working with colleagues across regions to share insight, align strategy, and support cross‑border priorities.

Key relationships

Internal: Senior partners across LSEG, including divisional leadership teams and members of the Executive Committee, offering exposure to decision‑making at the highest levels.

External: Policymakers, regulators, politicians, central bankers, industry bodies, academics, think tanks, and senior peers across the financial services ecosystem.

What you’ll bring

  • A track record of influencing outcomes through engagement with senior, sophisticated stakeholders.
  • Deep knowledge of Japan’s political, policy, and regulatory landscape, and the confidence to navigate it independently.
  • Experience engaging with the Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA), the Bank of Japan, and/or the Government of Japan (highly desirable).
  • Professional experience in public policy, regulation, and/or the Japanese financial services sector.
  • Existing external networks that you can continue to develop and expand.
  • Strong executive presence, with the ability to turn complexity into clear, actionable advice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese and English.

What you’ll get in return

  • The chance to create a visible and lasting impact in a strategically critical market.
  • Access to senior leaders and exposure to sophisticated, high‑profile issues.
  • A diverse, inclusive, and collaborative team.
  • A hybrid working model: 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home.
