Your impact

 

We are seeking a Director, Environment to join the senior leadership team at Newmont’s Boddington mine, one of Australia’s largest open-pit gold and copper operations.

 

Reporting to the Head, Health Safety & Environment, this role leads a site-based environmental function and is accountable for environmental compliance, performance and permitting across the operation.

 

This is a permanent drive-in, drive-out role (5:2, 4:3 roster) from Perth or regional South-Western Australia. Site accommodation will be provided.

 

In this leadership role, you will:

 

  • Lead and manage the site environmental team by setting priorities, building capability and ensuring clear accountability for delivery
  • Implement and embed environmental standards, systems, processes and tools across the Boddington operation and align site-level priorities and budgets with enterprise requirements
  • Lead the site environmental compliance framework including permitting, approvals, assurance and regulatory reporting and work with functional leaders to ensure environmental obligations are understood, implemented and met across the operation
  • Act as the primary site interface with environmental regulators and manage inspections, audits and ongoing engagement
  • Work closely with Health & Safety, Social Performance, Business Unit and Enterprise teams to strengthen integrated environmental outcomes and support environmental commitments within social agreements
  • Proactively manage site-level environmental risks and ensure accurate monitoring, data quality, reporting and trend analysis
  • Review environmental events, audits (internal and external), standards and commitments to ensure corrective actions are implemented and obligations are met.

 

What you will bring 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications highly regarded)
  • Extensive experience in environmental management at operating mine sites, including permitting, compliance and regulatory engagement
  • Strong understanding of gold mining and processing operations and the associated environmental risks and management systems
  • Sound knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance and regulatory frameworks relevant to mining
  • Proven capability leading and managing teams in an operational mining environment
  • Ability to influence and work effectively with site leadership, multidisciplinary teams, community stakeholders and regulators
  • Full and unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia.

Newmont Boddington is a world-class gold and copper operation located within the Saddleback greenstone belt in Western Australia, approximately 130 kilometres southeast of Perth and 16 kilometres from the rural farming town of Boddington.
