Job overview and responsibilities

The Director of Change Management will play a critical role in supporting United’s team by leading transformational technology and process change initiatives. With multi million dollars investment impacting over our frontline employees across all stations, this leader will drive the employee adoption of innovative solutions and ensure alignment with operational goals. 

Change Management Strategy & Methodology: 

·       Define and manage the change management methodology and principles for operational projects 

·       Develop and implement a comprehensive Change Management Playbook, in collaboration with subject matter experts, to standardize protocols and ensure consistent documentation 

·       Provide thought leadership and problem-solving expertise to proactively address issues, navigate roadblocks, and influence key decisions in support of change management objectives 

·       Direct the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems applying advanced critical thinking via change management methodology 

Program Management & Delivery: 

·       Lead select key initiatives by driving and delivering critical workstreams 

·       Define the governance structure, cadence, and strategy for transformational change initiatives 

·       Lead cross-functional teams such as Digital Technology, Customer Insights, Operations, Training, and Communications to align on a unified change management approach.  

Stakeholder & Employee Engagement: 

·       Mobilize change champions by working with operational leaders to identify resources, onboard teams, build capabilities, and roll out strategies 

·       Collaborate and partner with Communications, and Training, to develop employee-centric plans aligned with our Change management Plan  

Performance & Risk Management: 

·       Define milestones and Key Performance Indicators for the overarching change management plan 

·       Regularly report on performance metrics, risks, and progress to executive leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability 

·       Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks to the successful delivery of the change management roadmap  

Leadership Communication: 

·       Communicate complex change management strategies, findings, and recommendations to various audiences, including the Executive Leadership Team and Executive Committee 

·       Facilitate presentations and discussions to drive alignment, secure buy-in, and achieve key outcomes 

·       Negotiation with senior leaders may be necessary across the business

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

·       Lead, develop and mentor members of the Change Management team 

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • 8+ years of related experience 

  • Knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools 

  • Strong organization and project management skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and excellent active listening skills 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting ideas and concepts to leadership 

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship 

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification 

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

  • This role is located in Chicago and follows a hybrid work schedule 

  • Flexible, with the ability and willingness to travel up to 60% to support business needs

 

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Certification in Change Management methodologies (e.g. Prosci Certified Change Practitioner, Certified Change Management Professional™ (CCMP™)) with program level experience in leading strategy/execution of Change Management deliverables, across multiple workstreams 

  • Experience facilitating groups of individuals to unstructured outcomes 

  • Experience in motivating change management methodologies in aviation and/or frontline employees’/operations 

  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, data collection & analysis and data visualization 

  • Ability to interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques and providing ongoing reports


The base pay range for this role is $159,790.00 to $207,998.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
