Job Summary

We are seeking a hardworking and versatile Yard & Warehouse Worker to join our Springfield team. This is a high-energy role that keeps our shop supplied and our shipments moving. You will spend your day transitioning between heavy-duty material handling, inventory organization, and loading/unloading steel. The ideal candidate thrives in an outdoor environment and takes pride in maintaining an orderly, efficient yard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Material Handling: Expertly operate heavy-duty forklifts to move, stack, and retrieve steel beams, plates, and rebar.

  • Painting & Coating: Prepare steel surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and staging materials; assist with applying industrial coatings or paint using appropriate equipment; ensure proper drying, handling, and storage of painted materials.
  • Logistics & Loading: Load outgoing trailers (ensuring loads are balanced and secured) and unload incoming shipments, verifying materials against manifests.

  • Yard Organization: Maintain a clean and logical yard layout; ensure all materials are stored in designated zones for quick retrieval by the fabrication team.

  • Facility Maintenance: Perform regular "housekeeping" in the warehouse and yard to ensure a safe, debris-free work environment.

  • Inventory Support: Assist with physical inventory counts and track incoming/outgoing stock to prevent project delays.

  • Equipment Care: Perform daily pre-shift inspections on forklifts and equipment; report maintenance needs immediately.

Qualifications

  • Forklift Expertise: Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy-duty forklifts, preferably in a steel, lumber, or heavy industrial environment.

  • Steel Knowledge: Familiarity with different steel shapes (I-beams, channels, angles), grades, and sizes is a major plus.

  • Physical Capability: Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and remain active on your feet for the duration of the shift.

  • Reliability: A strong work ethic, punctuality, and a "safety-first" mentality are non-negotiable.

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
