Overview

Employee will perform a variety of complex and technical office and field duties related to the design and maintenance of the Power Plant facility drawings and records. Employee will perform a variety of skilled drafting work assignments as required by Generation Engineering.


Responsibilities

GENERAL DUTIES

The normal duties may include but are not limited to:

1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.

2. Employee, acting in conjunction with supervision, or individually as directed by supervision, will assist with the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Design Drafter Apprentice within the subject line of progression. This shall include other duties with which the employee is familiar.

3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in training activities.

4. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. The employee will demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by the Company to assure correct classification of employees.

5. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.

6. Employee will perform such other duties that are within his/her capabilities as directed by supervision that are necessary to Company operation or are needed for training for higher classifications.

7. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

8. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift as needed.

9. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment within and outside the Company.

10. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.

11. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Duties, which may include, but are not limited to:

1. Employee will perform all the duties of the Design Drafter Apprentice.

2. Employee will perform drafting work, involving the use and care of computer aided and other drafting tools, to include: drafting structural, mechanical, or electrical drawings, correcting or revising blueprints to show field changes, computing elevations, area, volumes, steel weights and other similar calculations. Employee will perform field work and surveying where required, plot surveys of properties, facilities and associated structures, detail structural steel, reinforcing steel, piping systems, or electrical wiring diagrams and schematics. Employee will prepare bills of materials from approved construction drawings, and prepare graphs, charts, posters and other graphic illustrations as required.

3. Employee will assist or perform any necessary records research pertinent to a particular job as required.

4. Employee will prepare or assist with detailed cost estimates and bills of material for assigned projects.

5. Employee will report job progress, problems and other pertinent information relative to jobs and projects to the appropriate personnel.


Qualifications

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
 
1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.
 
2. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
 
3. Employee must have education or knowledge equivalent to that normally represented by satisfactory completion of the requirements of a high school diploma, or equivalent.
 
4. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
 
5. Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced.
 
6. Employee must have a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles, including those with manual transmissions.
 
7. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
 
8. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
 
9. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which include work at heights and manual labor.
 
10. Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher qualifications
 
11. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
 
12. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
 
13. Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.
 
14. Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression.
 
15. Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him/her to obtain satisfactory work results.
 
16. Employee must be rated qualified for entry into this classification under the Company's Employee Performance Review Program and have satisfactorily completed all applicable training and testing programs.
 
17. Employee must meet all qualifications as required by Federal, State Municipal regulations as it applies to this position.
 
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
 
1. Employee must have at least twelve (12) months experience as an Design Drafter Apprentice or the equivalent and successfully completed all training and testing programs required in that classification.
 
2. Employee must be proficient in the performance of mathematical calculations, have the ability to handle difficult design assignments and to examine and check other employees work as required.
 
3. Employee must be competent in computer application, demonstrate ability to master new applications, and be proficient with Computer Aided Drafting software and tools.
 
4. Employee must have proficient knowledge of field measuring techniques specific to their field which may include the use of surveying equipment such as a transit, level and rod.
 
5. Employee must have attained a general knowledge of the operations of the Power Plants and adhere to all safety procedures as they apply.
 
6. Employee must be able to take instructions and follow established procedures with minimal direction.
 
7. Employee must have demonstrated the ability to meet the public in a pleasant, courteous and tactful manner and must possess the ability to work cooperatively with other departments, outside agencies and contractors as required.
