The Successful candidate sill:
Develop the Biomedical Research Institute and serve as the Institute's first director at FDLTCC which is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Duluth as part of the BRE-SPAD grant awarded to UMD.
Oversee the development of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) at FDLTCC along with biology and chemistry faculty at FDLTCC and UMD.
Establish at least one (1) new CUREs experience each year of the grant.
Work to create and support a two-way flow of student experiences between FDLTCC and UMD.
Facilitate student experiences each summer of the grant on both campuses.
Actively participate in the Research Interest Groups (RIGs) established between FDLTCC and UMD designed as an incubator for research collaboration between the Institutions.
Develop at least one seed grant application each year through the RIGs.
The director will work with the FDLTCC grants office and the UMD Sponsored Programs office to ensure grant reporting is done in a timely manner.
Annual reports and communication with UMD-SPA will be prioritized.
Be available to teach a variety of lower division biology courses, both lecture and lab, including General Biology, Microbiology, and other related courses.
Participate in institutional planning and student success initiatives.
Be able to teach using a variety of delivery methodologies ranging from in-person to online to hybrid/blended courses and including the use of learning management systems.
Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in a multidimensional campus community, with a special focus on American Indian students as well as students with a broad range of skill levels.
Exhibit a strong commitment to supporting diverse students through instruction, active participation in campus activities, and other college and state system-level initiatives.
Salary Range: $51,303 - $71,893 Annual Base Salary Range
The above salary range is for initial placement only, if currently teaching within Minnesota State, current salary will remain the same.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree with a major in Biology or
Master's degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in biology.
Preferred Qualification
Ph.D. in Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
Postdoctoral fellowship work related to biology or biomedical research.
Experience recruiting and mentoring students interested in STEM fields
Experience with working with grants and meeting grant outcomes and protocols.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a student population encompassing a broad range of skill levels.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, including committee work.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
