Communications Lead
About Abound
We’re redefining consumer lending in the UK, and beyond. Using advanced AI and Open Banking data, we make fair, affordable personal finance available to more people. While traditional lenders rely almost entirely on credit scores, we look at the full financial picture - how much you spend, and what you can afford to repay to build a deeper, more accurate understanding of each customer's unique financial situation.
And we've shown it works at scale. We’ve issued over £1.3bn in loans directly to customers while delivering market-leading credit performance - for every 10 defaults the industry expects, we see only 3. We also reached profitability just 2.5 years after launch.
Backed by £2bn+ of funding from top-tier investors including Citi, GSR Ventures, and Deutsche Bank, we’re recognised as one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintechs (Sifted, CNBC). Now, we’re expanding into new markets and product lines - and we’re looking for ambitious people who want to learn fast, take ownership, and grow with us.
About the role
Abound has real substance - a category-defining product, a mission that matters, and numbers and a track record that speak for themelves. But we've been heads-down building, and our communications haven't kept pace with our ambition.
As Comms Lead, you'll change that. You'll define and own our communications strategy from the ground up - shaping how we show up to the world, building our profile with investors and future hires, and creating an internal culture of clarity and transparency.
This is a founding role in our comms function. That means genuine ownership, no inherited playbook, and the opportunity to build something from scratch. The goal: make Abound one of the top 5 most respected fintechs in the UK in the eyes of the people who matter most — world-class talent and the investment community.
What you'll be doing
Define and execute Abound's end-to-end communications strategy, covering both internal and external audiences
Build and own our media and PR presence - identify the right press, agency partners and spokespeople; secure meaningful coverage in the publications our target audiences actually read
Source, onboard and manage external agencies or freelancers needed to scale the function effectively
Be a skilled writer and editor across all formats: blog posts, press releases, exec communications, investor updates and more
Act as a spokesperson where appropriate and coach internal leaders to communicate with clarity and confidence
Develop our employer brand narrative to help us attract exceptional people
Build our investor comms playbook - ensuring our story lands clearly and compellingly with current and prospective investors
Create the internal communications infrastructure we currently lack: all-hands, newsletters, leadership updates
Who you are:
Proven experience in a communications role, ideally at a fintech, financial services company, or a comms/PR agency with relevant clients
A track record of building or meaningfully elevating a brand's communications function - not just maintaining someone else's
An exceptional writer: clear, compelling and able to adapt your voice to different audiences and channels
Strategic and executional: you can develop a plan and see it through - not just respond to what lands in your inbox
A strong network in UK fintech or financial media is a bonus, but not a prerequisite
Comfortable operating as a one-person function initially, with the commercial sense to know when to bring in external support
Ambitious: you want to build something that makes people take notice
Why join
This is a chance to own something genuinely important at a company with real momentum. You won't be maintaining someone else's comms machine - you'll be building it. Your fingerprints will be on every piece of media coverage, every investor update, every piece of culture we put into the world.
If you want a role where your work is visible, your impact is measurable and your voice genuinely shapes how a company is perceived, this is it.
