Key purpose of the role 

 

The Cloud Tech Lead plays a key role in shaping how Medibank designs, builds and runs its cloud platforms. You’ll lead and support a team of Cloud Engineers to deliver secure, reliable and cost‑effective cloud environments, while working closely with technology and business partners to achieve great outcomes together. 

 

Your impact? 

 

  • In this role, you’ll combine hands‑on technical expertise with people leadership and collaboration. You’ll: 
  • Lead and mentor a team of Cloud and DevOps Engineers, helping them grow their capability and deliver quality outcomes 
  • Design and guide cloud architecture across AWS ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and aligned to best practices 
  • Drive automation using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines to improve consistency and efficiency 
  • Work closely with application teams and stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into practical cloud solutions 
  • Oversee cloud operations, including availability, monitoring, cost optimisation and adherence to governance and security standards 

 

Key skills / strengths 

 

We’re open to people from different backgrounds who bring strong, transferable skills. Experience that would help you succeed includes: 

  • Strong hands‑on experience with public AWS cloud platforms (Azure advantageous). 
  • Proven ability to design and deploy cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Ansible or similar) 
  • Experience with container, serverless and platform services in a production environment 
  • Confidence leading or mentoring others, and sharing knowledge in a supportive way 
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders 
  • A proactive, curious approach and a desire to continuously improve how things are done
