Overview

Pine Haven Boys Center is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian residential and educational facility serving boys ages 6-14 who have experienced trauma, neglect, and behavior or emotional challenges. Located on over 100 acres in Allenstown, NH, Pine Haven provides intensive therapeutic and academic programming to support student growth and long-term success.

Pine Haven is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Director that is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and quality of clinical services within Pine Haven intensive residential treatment program. This role provides strategic direction and clinical oversight to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, evidence-based therapeutic interventions that support the emotional, behavioral, and psychological well-being of residents. The Clinical Director leads a multidisciplinary clinical team and ensures that treatment services are trauma-informed, individualized, and integrated within the residential milieu.

In partnership with program leadership and medical providers, the Clinical Director oversees treatment planning, clinical supervision, staff development, and program evaluation to promote positive client outcomes and maintain high standards of care. The role ensures compliance with all state licensing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements while fostering a therapeutic environment that prioritizes safety, collaboration, and professional excellence.

The Clinical Director serves as a key leader within the program, guiding clinical practice, supporting staff in managing complex cases and crises, and ensuring that all therapeutic services are delivered with integrity, consistency, and adherence to best practices in residential behavioral health treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Program Oversight

  • Provide administrative and clinical oversight of all therapeutic services delivered within the program.
  • Ensure the implementation of evidence-based therapeutic interventions and trauma-informed care practices across the program.
  • Guide the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of individualized treatment plans that address each client’s psychological, emotional, behavioral, and social needs.
  • Oversee the integration of therapeutic modalities such as individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, behavioral interventions, and skill-building interventions within the residential milieu.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and implement quality improvement strategies to enhance treatment effectiveness and client progress.
  • Provide clinical oversight and support to respite families serving clients, ensuring adherence to treatment plans, safety protocols, and program expectations.

Clinical Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain administrative oversight of all required clinical documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory and licensing standards.
  • Review and approve psychosocial assessments, individualized treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge planning documentation.
  • Conduct quarterly clinical audits of client charts to ensure adherence to documentation standards and best clinical practices.
  • Ensure the program maintains full compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards related to patient care, safety, and clinical practice.

Supervision and Staff Development

  • Provide clinical supervision and leadership to therapists, family workers, and other members of the clinical team.
  • Facilitate weekly individual and group clinical supervision to support professional development and maintain high standards of therapeutic practice.
  • Mentor and train clinical staff in evidence-based interventions, trauma-informed care, and best practices in residential treatment.
  • Oversee orientation and ongoing training for clinical team members to ensure competency in therapeutic interventions and treatment planning.
  • Provide supervision to clinical interns when appropriate.

Treatment Planning and Milieu Integration

  • Oversee the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans, ensuring alignment between clinical goals and daily residential programming.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings with direct care staff to support the effective implementation of treatment plans within the residential milieu.
  • Ensure behavioral support strategies, therapeutic interventions, and skill-building activities are consistently implemented by the multidisciplinary team.

Admissions and Clinical Assessment

  • Oversee the clinical review of referrals and participate in the assessment process for prospective residents.
  • Determine clinical appropriateness for admission based on treatment needs, level of care requirements, and program capacity.
  • Ensure timely and thorough intake assessments, including psychosocial evaluations and risk assessments.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate with medical providers, including contracted psychiatric and medication management providers, to ensure coordinated care.
  • Provide oversight of clinical collaboration with the nursing department to support integrated physical and behavioral health care.
  • Participate in external meetings, professional trainings, and collaborative care planning with families, schools, and community partners.

Crisis Management and Risk Oversight

  • Provide on-call clinical support for emergencies, high-risk situations, and acute client needs.
  • Guide staff in implementing appropriate crisis intervention strategies and safety planning when necessary.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor, particularly during emergencies, to support the safety and welfare of students, families, and the organization.

Qualifications

  • Requirements: Master’s degree in Social Work or Clinical Mental Health Counseling LICSW or LCMHC in New Hampshire.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience preferred, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Ability to lead and develop a multidisciplinary clinical team while promoting high standards of ethical and evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Strong clinical judgment in complex cases, including risk assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.
  • Deep understanding of trauma-informed care, attachment-based approaches, behavioral interventions, and therapeutic milieu treatment.
  • Ability to guide staff in implementing structured therapeutic interventions across multiple treatment modalities.
  • Skilled in providing reflective supervision, clinical coaching, and performance feedback to clinical staff.
  • Ability to foster professional growth, accountability, and adherence to best clinical practices.
  • Experience evaluating clinical programming and implementing improvements to strengthen treatment outcomes.
  • Ability to develop systems that support effective treatment planning, documentation, and service delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of state licensing standards, confidentiality laws, ethical codes of practice, and documentation compliance.
  • Ability to maintain program readiness for audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, external providers, and community partners.
  • Ability to translate clinical treatment goals into practical interventions within a residential milieu.
  • Ability to respond effectively to clinical emergencies, high-risk behaviors, and complex client presentations.
  • Skilled in guiding teams through crisis intervention and stabilization while maintaining therapeutic integrity.

Work Environment

This position is office-based at Pine Haven’s residential treatment campus and requires the ability to work within a residential treatment environment, which may involve frequent movement throughout the facility and engagement with clients in multiple program settings. It also requires the capacity to review and analyze written documentation, treatment plans, and clinical reports for extended periods. May require evening or weekend availability to support program needs, staff supervision, or clinical emergencies, as well as on-call clinical consultation to support staff in managing urgent client situations or behavioral crises. The position entails maintaining professional composure and effective decision-making in high-stress situations involving complex clinical needs and the ability to participate in crisis response and support staff during high-risk or emergency situations within the residential setting when necessary.
