Tesla’s Cell Qualification and Abuse Test teams are looking for skilled and motivated Cell Test Technicians. The teams’ missions are to validate lifetime, reliability and safety performance of cells against requirements and standards. The team thus contributes to design and product validations.

  • Perform cell tests independently using specialized equipment, fixtures, environmental test chambers and data loggers and according to SOPs and internal standards. 
  • Perform test preparation activities (e.g. instrumentation, charging). 
  • Perform destructive teardowns for root-cause analysis. Documenting findings and report outcomes. 
  • Maintain high test throughput/efficiency and data quality.  
  • Build, assemble, commission equipment and tests (as needed).
  • Own organizational tasks & responsibilities like creation & maintenance of procedures, SOPs, standards, equipment, inspections, lab commissioning, facilities, maintenance and staff trainings.  
  • Tasks require work with hazardous materials using mandated PPE and to set up and perform tests in person and in lab environments. 
  • Other tasks as required. 
Required skills:
  • Completed vocational training (Berufsausbildung) or recognized equivalent education in Process Technology (Verfahrensmechaniker); Chemical, Medical, Environmental or Physical Laboratories (Chemisch-/medizinisch-/physikalisch-technischer Assistent oder Chemikant) or comparable technical and craftsmanship education. 
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software. 
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment with new technologies, equipment and processes. 
  • Ability to perform repetitive and standardized work with high reliability and attention to detail on complicated systems is a “must have”. 

Additional preferred skills:

  • Experience with test equipment for cell and/or battery testing (cyclers, environmental chambers, DAQs) or comparable experience with electrical test equipment. 
  • Hands-on experience with cell and/or battery or vehicle testing or comparable experience in aviation, or power electronics. 
  • Assumption of responsibilities under dangerous goods law/ordinance; particularly but not limited to packaging and vehicle loading
